About the Role
This is an Engineering Manager role leading one of the core product engineering teams at a B2B SaaS company modernizing software for local governments. You will be a hands-on technical leader and force multiplier, setting clear direction, contributing directly to code and architecture, and mentoring a team of 3-7 engineers.
What You'll Do- Lead, manage, and mentor a team of 3-7 software engineers, supporting their career growth and development.
- Partner with product and cross-functional teams to define and execute the technical roadmap for core products.
- Stay hands-on, dedicating 20-30% of your time to coding, code reviews, and architectural design.
- Guide critical architectural decisions to keep systems scalable, performant, and maintainable.
- Champion high standards for code quality, testing, documentation, and overall engineering excellence.
- 7-15 years of total engineering experience, with 5+ years as an individual contributor and demonstrated people management experience.
- Proven track record of building and shipping production systems while leading technical teams.
- Strong proficiency in React, TypeScript, and Python; Kotlin or Go experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with AWS, Docker, Terraform, PostgreSQL, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience building and shipping customer-facing products in production environments.
- Background at an early-stage startup or resource-constrained environment.
- Hands-on experience integrating AI-assisted development tools (such as Claude, Cursor, or similar) into engineering workflows.
- Sustained tenure per role (2-3 years minimum, 4+ preferred), demonstrating consistent impact over time.
- Based in the United States, able to work US time zones, and comfortable with approximately 10% customer travel.
Base salary range: $165,000 to $205,000 USD annually. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
LocationFully remote within the United States. Primary hub is the Palo Alto, California area.
