Apple’s IS&T Greater China teams are seeking a hands-on, experienced Engineering Project Manager to drive critical technology compliance and governance initiatives in China. Reporting into the GC IS&T Director, you will be driving operational and strategic excellence, ensuring our enterprise applications, systems, and platforms meet rigorous regional and global compliance standards. As an Engineering Project Manager focused on the China compliance program, you will play a crucial, high-visibility role leading complex, cross-functional technology initiatives across engineering, service reliability operations, legal, privacy, and security. You will bring structure to ambiguity, align diverse teams around clear priorities, and ensure the delivery of compliant, secure, and high-quality technological solutions that adhere to China's specific regulatory requirements.
In this role, you will operate comfortably at both strategic and execution levels. You will work with Governance and Compliance team and Legal to apply standards across IT general and automated controls to operational practices for related IS&T engineering and operations teams in China, while diving deep into technical details, project schedules, risks, and operational readiness. You should be passionate about understanding and improving automated controls, enterprise architectures, and the technology environments that support them. You will proactively identify and mitigate risks, remove obstacles, and foster seamless communication across global and regional teams.
This role is based in Shanghai, China.
Minimum Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience in at least one of fields such as engineering project management, technical program management, technology compliance, IT audit, or enterprise systems delivery.
- Proven experience leading complex cross-functional technology programs, bringing multiple teams together to march towards common objectives.
- Native or highly professional fluency in English and Mandarin communication as well as presentation skills, written and verbal, with the ability to present complex technical, compliance and audit topics clearly to engineering teams and senior leadership.
- Demonstrated capability and learning agility in engaging in detailed discussions with engineering and operations teams regarding system architecture, data flows, integration dependencies, and engineering trade-offs.
- Self-motivated, independent, and proactive person with exceptional interpersonal skills; can quickly triage, prioritize, and navigate ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Risk Management, or a related technical field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep familiarity with China’s regulatory compliance landscape such as personal data protection, data localization, and data governance.
- Experience with major enterprise platforms, cloud infrastructure, systems development life cycle (SDLC), and modern cloud-based infrastructure (microservices, CI/CD, Kubernetes).
- Proven ability to operate in a landscape where regulations may be newly minted, ambiguous, or subject to sudden regulatory guidance changes.
- Experience with embedding Privacy by Design and Compliance by Design principles into the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- Strong understanding of data architecture, data flows, database technologies, and cloud infrastructure.
- Familiarity with technical privacy controls such as encryption, tokenization, anonymization/pseudonymization, Identity and Access Management (IAM), data mapping, and data classification systems.
- Experience with regulatory-facing or audit-facing activities, including the preparation of technical documentation, data flow diagrams, evidence packages, and remediation plans, as well as articulating technical details to internal stakeholders and external auditors and regulators.
