Through a clear understanding of the business strategy, intent, or requirements:

  1. Manage projects directly: Agree, set, and achieve challenging success criteria for projects and formulate and deliver project execution strategies to achieve delivery through a project team composed mainly of third parties (e.g. Syngenta staff, design and construction contractors and equipment suppliers)
  2. Work with project owners to shape project scope. This often requires holding large areas of ambiguity before a project scope is finalised in a Terms of Reference
  3. Define, estimate, deliver, track, and report safety, costs, and physical progress of individual capital projects
  4. Prepare robust, timely applications for engineering capital approvals and project completion reports
  5. Ensure full integration between commissioning and start-up activities and the design and construction phases of projects
  6. Develop an in-depth understanding of the engineering requirements for seed projects (R&D, P&S, VEG, and other business units of the company)
  7. *Provide cutting-edge engineering solutions for use throughout Syngenta. *A particular engineering specialism (e.g., AI Projects, Seeds Projects, GE Projects)
  8. Provide support for both annual and 5-year capital & expense planning for local sites and business units, including cost estimates, business case development, and schedule development
  • University degree (BS min or equivalent) in chemical/industrial engineering, electrical engineering mechanical engineering, agricultural engineering/biology/agronomy/food science
  • At least 5 years of experience
  • Demonstrates experience in operational manufacturing sites and construction
  • Leading a high-performance project team of internal and external resources
  • Engineering for a range of facility types (e.g., manufacturing, processing, commercial, laboratory)
  • Country legal and compliance requirements
  • Understanding risk in engineering activity
  • Setting appropriate standards
  • Understanding the external supply base
  • Contracting for engineering services
  • Management of engineering suppliers and contractors
