The Engineering Technician works onsite in an electrical test lab, building and configuring Motor Control Centers (MCCs) and switchgear test samples. This role supports engineering teams by performing UL and IEC compliance testing in high-current environments while maintaining strict adherence to electrical safety and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures. The technician documents test setups and results, collaborates with development and high-current lab engineers, and helps maintain a safe, organized, 5S-driven laboratory environment.

Responsibilities
  • Build and configure Motor Control Centers (MCCs) and switchgear test samples according to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Assemble electrical and mechanical components for standard and custom test configurations.
  • Prepare equipment for high-current, high-power electrical testing.
  • Perform compliance testing in accordance with:
    • UL 845
    • UL 891
    • IEC 61439-1
    • IEC 61439-2
  • Conduct electrical testing, including:
    • Short circuit testing
    • Arc flash testing
    • Temperature rise testing
    • Dielectric (Hi-Pot) testing
  • Support the safe operation of equipment in high-current laboratory environments.
  • Document test procedures, setups, results, observations, and any anomalies or deviations.
  • Maintain traceability and compliance documentation.
  • Follow all electrical safety, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and laboratory safety procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and audit-ready work environment using 5S principles.
  • Collaborate with development engineers to support design verification activities.
  • Assist high-current lab engineers during complex testing.
  • Provide hands-on support for failure investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Communicate testing progress, issues, and results to engineering teams.
Required Qualifications
  • Up to one year of technical school education or equivalent technical training.
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Electrical and mechanical assembly
    • Power and control wiring
    • Test instrumentation and laboratory equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Electrical safety practices
    • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures
    • Safe work practices around high-energy electrical systems
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma concepts and 5S workplace organization.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience testing Motor Control Centers (MCCs), switchgear, or industrial power distribution equipment.
  • Familiarity with UL and IEC compliance testing standards.
