Job Title: Special Interest Instructor

Status: Part-time, Non-exempt
Essential Functions
The Special Interest Instructor is responsible for planning, implementing, leading and teaching youth/teen variety programs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Must have experience or skills supervising children
- Possess the knowledge and skills of planning, organizing and leading activities
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain and develop a thorough understanding of the Park District’s policies and operations and enforce them in a positive manner.
- Be able to lead, teach and demonstrate the program offered in easy, understanding terms.
- Be able to organize a class, keep attendance and cover all material required.
- Maintain safe and clean atmosphere for everyone. Equipment must be taken care of and put back neatly for storage.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
- Maintain a watchful eye on the class at all times
- Be responsible for the safety and instruction of all students
- Consistently enforce all rules for the facility.
- Take attendance each time class meets
- Have an agenda for each week of what will happen prior to program starting. Have a plan B if it isn’t working.
BEFORE CLASS
- Be on time and prepared for class before class begins.
- Follow your agenda
DURING CLASS
- Teach all class material in an effective manner, adapting teaching styles to fit the needs of the class
- Watch your class at all times. Do not leave the class participants unattended at any time.
AFTER CLASS
- Be available and approachable for participants/ parents to discuss questions or concerns.
- Be sure to clean up all equipment used during the lesson.
- Go over your agenda make notes what worked what didn’t where you left off tweak future lesson plans
Required Qualifications:
- Valid Driver’s License
- Experience in the program you are teaching
- Excellent (oral and written) communication skills
- Proficient knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office applications
Recommended Qualifications:
- Certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) within 3 months of employment

5. Employee will be required to perform the following work:
_ Sedentary Work Lifting 10 pounds maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as dockets, ledgers and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and other sedentary criteria are met.
