Enterprise Architect (Business & Application Architecture)
Summary
Enterprise Architect at Ping An Bank's Hong Kong branch: translates retail banking, corporate banking and financial markets strategy into a 3-5 year target application architecture. Day to day: designing front/middle/back-office integration (API, messaging, event-driven), reusing Head Office platform capabilities, leading legacy consolidation, passing Head Office architecture reviews and mentoring
We are looking for candidates specializing in daily investment transactions processing and related projects implementation.
Job Description
Business strategy to system architecture translation: Understand the product strategies of each business line (Retail Banking, Corporate Banking, Financial Markets) and, for key business products and projects, define how business capabilities are placed across systems — which capability resides in which system, which are reused from Head Office platforms, and which require local build or consolidation — and produce a three-to-five-year target architecture and evolution roadmap, presenting it to senior management and Head Office.
Eliminating breakpoints and bottlenecks across front, middle and back office: Working from end-to-end customer journeys, identify breakpoints (process discontinuities, duplicate data entry) and bottlenecks (missing capabilities, system silos) between the channels layer, the product/risk middle office and the core accounting/regulatory reporting back office; design the integration solution and lead its delivery.
Architecture consultation and Head Office review liaison: Before major projects are initiated, consult the Head Office architecture team on existing solutions and platform capabilities to confirm reusable components; issue the branch's architecture design, represent the branch in Head Office architecture reviews, and track review findings through to closure.
Capability reuse and system consolidation: Drive the buildup of shared capabilities (customer master data, credit limits, pricing, compliance watchlists, collateral management, etc.) to reduce siloed build; lead legacy system consolidation, decommissioning and data migration planning.
Technology evaluation and team enablement: Assess the feasibility, risk and compliance of AI / large-language-model use cases in banking from a business-value perspective, and lead the resulting pilots; coach and develop application architects and senior technologists.
Requirements
Bachelor degree or above in Computer Science, Information Engineering or a related discipline; 10+ years of IT experience in banking or large financial institutions, including 5+ years as an architect, with full enterprise-level architecture experience across systems, departments and domains — not single-system or single-project architecture.
Proven ownership of the full journey from "business strategy → system placement design → target architecture → transition architecture → evolution roadmap"; candidates should be prepared to walk through a real case in interview.
Hands-on experience in business capability modeling / value stream analysis; solid understanding of the front / middle / back-office system landscape of a commercial bank and its common integration breakpoints, with end-to-end process re-engineering projects led end to end.
Pragmatic technical depth sufficient to make designs land: API / messaging / event-driven integration, customer master data consistency, distributed transactions and ledger consistency, asynchronous process orchestration. Expert-level certification in any specific cloud vendor is not required.
Familiar with mainstream architecture methodologies; understanding of the group control model in which Head Office sets standards and conducts reviews while the branch consults and executes, with hands-on experience presenting branch architecture designs and passing Head Office review.
Understanding of regulatory expectations on technology architecture (e.g. HKMA expectations for designated systemically important institutions and operational resilience guidelines, data governance and cross-border data security); experience in security architecture or business continuity management is a plus.
Fluent Mandarin is a must (regular collaboration with the Mainland-based Head Office): able to consult the Head Office architecture team, present branch architecture designs and defend them in review, all in Mandarin. Good Cantonese and English; able to independently author architecture documents and executive reporting materials in both Chinese and English.
Excellent stakeholder and executive communication skills: able to engage business line heads as a peer and drive architecture decisions to closure in a multi-party environment.
