Enterprise Data Architect

Summary

Designs and governs enterprise-scale data platforms, migration strategies, and AI-ready analytics ecosystems for a government-focused digital transformation.

We are seeking an experienced Enterprise Data Architect to join our team and lead the design and evolution of enterprise-scale data capabilities within a major transformation environment.

This role will play a critical part in defining the future-state data architecture, establishing governance frameworks, shaping data migration strategies, and enabling secure, scalable analytics and AI-ready platforms. The successful candidate will work across business and technology teams to ensure data is treated as a strategic asset and that enterprise data investments deliver long-term value.

This is an opportunity to influence architecture decisions at an organisational level while guiding the implementation of modern cloud-based data platforms and information management capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain enterprise data architecture principles, standards, reference models, and roadmaps.
  • Design future-state data platforms including data lakes, data warehouses, lakehouses, and analytical ecosystems.
  • Define and govern enterprise data models, metadata frameworks, and data lifecycle management practices.
  • Lead the development of data migration strategies, sequencing plans, transition architectures, and migration governance.
  • Establish and promote best-practice approaches for data quality, lineage, stewardship, security, and compliance.
  • Guide the selection and implementation of enterprise data catalogue and metadata management capabilities.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, architects, engineers, security teams, and delivery partners to align data solutions with strategic objectives.
  • Provide architectural leadership across cloud and hybrid data environments.
  • Support AI and advanced analytics initiatives by ensuring trusted, governed, and reusable data assets are available.
  • Contribute to architecture governance forums, design reviews, and technology decision-making processes.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • NV1 Security Clearance
  • Demonstrated experience operating as an Enterprise Data Architect within large and complex organisations.
  • Strong experience designing enterprise data platforms, including data warehouses, data lakes, lakehouses, and analytical ecosystems.
  • Experience developing and implementing enterprise data strategies, architecture roadmaps, and governance frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of data modelling disciplines including conceptual, logical, and physical modelling.
  • Proven experience leading complex data migration and transformation initiatives.
  • Experience implementing metadata management, data lineage, data quality, and data governance capabilities.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working in cloud-based data environments, ideally across Microsoft Azure and associated data services.
  • Excellent written documentation, architecture modelling, and communication skills.
Highly Desirable
  • Experience with Master Data Management (MDM) solutions and frameworks.
  • Experience implementing enterprise data catalogue platforms such as Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Informatica, Alation, or similar.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure data services including Fabric, Databricks, Synapse Analytics, Data Factory, and Data Lake technologies.
  • Experience supporting AI, machine learning, or advanced analytics initiatives through modern data architecture practices.
  • Experience within Federal Government or other highly regulated environments.
  • TOGAF, DAMA, cloud architecture, data architecture, or related certifications.
