Job Purpose
The Environmental Compliance Officer is responsible for supporting Priority Waste’s environmental compliance program across its growing network of transfer stations, hauling yards, and waste-processing facilities. This role ensures permits, regulatory requirements, documentation, and compliance activities are properly managed and maintained.
This is a hands-on role for a detail-oriented professional who enjoys a balance of fieldwork and administrative responsibilities. The Environmental Compliance Officer will work closely with the Chief of Legal, compliance manager, operations leadership, and site managers to support regulatory compliance, facility inspections, reporting requirements, and interactions with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes & Energy (EGLE).
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain and manage the company’s environmental compliance tracking system, including regulatory requirements, deadlines, inspections, and corrective actions.
- Track and support the maintenance of environmental permits, registrations, licenses, and required regulatory notifications.
- Prepare, organize, and maintain compliance documentation, including inspection records, waste tracking, manifests, and required filings.
- Support liquid waste management documentation, including procedures, disposal records, and compliance tracking.
- Conduct routine facility inspections and site visits to identify compliance issues and support timely corrective actions.
- Monitor open compliance items, document progress, and ensure corrective actions are completed and properly recorded.
- Assist with regulatory communications, site visits, and documentation requests from EGLE and other agencies.
- Support the development of compliance training materials and assist with employee education related to waste handling, spill prevention, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with operations teams to promote a strong culture of environmental compliance across all facilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
