About

The Environmental Compliance Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving Boulder Scientific's environmental compliance programs to support safe and sustainable manufacturing operations. This position performs complex environmental data analysis and management, leads technical environmental projects, and supports day-to-day compliance activities across multiple environmental media.

The Environmental Compliance Specialist provides technical expertise for multimedia environmental compliance programs at Boulder Scientific's Mead and Longmont facilities, including air quality, hazardous waste, stormwater, wastewater, and other environmental programs within an advanced chemical manufacturing environment. This position works collaboratively with operations, engineering, maintenance, laboratory, and management teams to ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulations, support sustainability initiatives, and drive continuous improvement in environmental performance.

This is a full-time, day shift position based in Mead, Colorado, with regular travel to the Longmont facility.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare, maintain, and submit accurate environmental reports in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, permit conditions, and company requirements.
  • Manage air compliance programs, including emissions calculations, emissions inventories, permit compliance, Operating and Maintenance (O&M) Plans, and regulatory reporting.
  • Coordinate environmental permitting activities, including preparing permit applications and renewals, monitoring permit requirements, and maintaining compliance with air, water, and other environmental permits.
  • Administer stormwater compliance programs by coordinating sampling activities, evaluating analytical data, preparing Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMRs), and maintaining the Stormwater Management Plan (SWMP).
  • Coordinate environmental sampling activities, interpret analytical results, and evaluate compliance with regulatory requirements and permit conditions.
  • Support hazardous waste compliance activities, including waste characterization, waste profiling, waste shipments, and preparation of required regulatory documentation.
  • Conduct routine environmental inspections and compliance audits; document findings, recommend corrective actions and Best Management Practices (BMPs), and track actions through completion.
  • Participate in environmental incident and spill investigations by conducting root cause analyses and developing effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support regulatory inspections, agency inquiries, internal audits, and third-party compliance assessments.
  • Monitor and interpret environmental laws and regulations, assess operational impacts, and provide technical guidance to internal stakeholders regarding compliance obligations.
  • Support capital projects, facility modifications, and new manufacturing processes by evaluating environmental impacts and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain environmental policies, procedures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and work instructions.
  • Develop, monitor, analyze, and communicate environmental performance metrics and sustainability initiatives.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to achieve compliance objectives while supporting operational excellence, continuous improvement, and environmental stewardship.
  • Identify opportunities to improve environmental compliance programs, reporting processes, operational efficiency, and sustainability performance.
  • Follow all company safety policies, environmental procedures, and regulatory requirements while maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Properly wear and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing assigned duties.
  • Perform other environmental compliance duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Complete and maintain all required environmental regulatory training, certifications, and professional development activities necessary to support compliance and safe work practices.
