Position Overview
PROtect is seeking an experienced Environmental Consultant II to provide environmental consulting and technical support to our clients. This role will help clients identify environmental risks, develop layers of protection, maintain regulatory compliance, and implement practical environmental programs.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in environmental consulting, permitting, or compliance and is comfortable researching regulations, working directly with clients, preparing technical reports, and translating complex environmental requirements into practical solutions.
This is a primarily remote position with required site visits and up to 25% travel, as needed.
What You'll Do

Provide environmental consulting services to clients related to environmental compliance, permitting, risk management, and regulatory requirements.
Help clients understand and implement requirements outlined in facility permits, plans, approvals, and applicable regulations.
Assist clients in developing and implementing facility-specific environmental policies, plans, and procedures.
Conduct environmental assessments to evaluate facility compliance and identify potential risks.
Research, interpret, and apply applicable state and federal environmental regulations.
Prepare timely and complete technical reports, permit applications, environmental plans, and other regulatory documentation.
Support client discussions and interactions with state and federal regulatory agencies.
Interpret environmental data, identify compliance risks, and develop practical solutions for clients.
Communicate complex environmental requirements effectively to facility personnel, stakeholders, and other audiences.
Maintain strong client relationships by providing responsive, professional, and technically sound service.
Pursue opportunities for continued professional development and technical learning.

Areas of Technical Expertise
This position will provide technical support in a variety of environmental compliance areas, including:
Air Quality

Air Construction and Operating Permits, including Title V Permits
Potential-to-Emit (PTE) and actual emissions calculations
Air permitting requirements and compliance plans
Management and operational plans associated with air permits
Ongoing air compliance requirements and reporting

Water Quality

NPDES Discharge Permits
Construction and industrial stormwater requirements
FRP and SPCC Plans
Water quality compliance and permitting

Environmental Reporting & Compliance

Tier II Reports
Emissions Inventories
Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) reporting
Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reporting
12-month rolling emissions totals
Quarterly and periodic compliance reports
Regulatory notifications and other ongoing compliance requirements
Risk Management Plans (RMP) and supporting documentation

Additional Technical Responsibilities

Assist with air dispersion analyses and air quality modeling; experience is preferred but not required.
Complete onsite environmental assessments.
Evaluate facility operations and environmental risks.
Research and interpret state and federal environmental regulations.
Support regulatory agency interactions and client meetings.

What We're Looking For
Education

Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Engineering, or another relevant technical/science discipline required.

Experience

Minimum 5 years of professional experience in environmental consulting, permitting, compliance, or a related field.
Working knowledge of applicable EPA regulations, including:

Clean Air Act (CAA)
Clean Water Act (CWA)
Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA)
Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA)
Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)

Knowledge of state-specific environmental regulations.
General understanding of chemical, petrochemical, grain processing, or industrial manufacturing processes preferred.
Experience with air dispersion modeling is a plus, but not required.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams, as well as Adobe Acrobat.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Primarily remote work with required onsite client visits.
Up to 25% travel, or as needed based on client requirements.
Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to drive for work-related travel.
May occasionally require weekend work or travel.
Site visits may involve exposure to:

Loud noises
Wet and humid conditions
Fumes or airborne particles
Changing weather conditions

Must be able to perform sedentary computer work and sit for extended periods.
May occasionally be required to lift up to 25 pounds.
