Environmental Engineer

We are seeking an Environmental Engineer position based in our Ploieşti location.

Role summary

The goal of the position is to ensure full compliance with the Integrated Environmental Authorization (IEA), monitor emissions from melting and curing processes, and drive sustainability and waste reduction initiatives across the plant.

Key responsibilities and activities:

  • Integrated Environmental Authorization Management: Monitor and ensure absolute compliance with all conditions and emission limit values; lead yearly visa and renewal processes.
  • Energy Management: Prepare and ensure timely energy management reporting and performance monitoring.
  • Energy Management: Participate in monthly energy management meetings, supporting the identification and implementation of improvement actions.
  • Emissions & Air Quality Monitoring: Oversee the measurement and monitoring programs for stack emissions, diffuse dust, and ambient air, collaborating closely with accredited laboratories.
  • Industrial Waste Management: Coordinate the recycling, storage, and disposal of industrial technological waste and hazardous waste, promoting circular economy principles.
  • Water & Wastewater Management: Monitor industrial and stormwater discharges, and ensure the optimal operation of wastewater treatment and oil-water separation systems.
  • Regulatory Reporting: Prepare and submit complex environmental reports to local authorities via official platforms. Act as the primary connection and host for official inspections from the National Environmental Guard, Water Authorities and external certification bodies.
  • ISO 14001:2015 Maintenance: Lead internal and external audits to maintain and continuously improve the Environmental Management System at the plant level. Conduct environmental training sessions for plant personnel to boost awareness of waste segregation, chemical safety and spill prevention.

Functional and technical competencies:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Material Sciences, or a related technical field.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of hands-on environmental management experience, preferably in heavy industry, building materials manufacturing, metallurgical, or chemical processing plants.
  • Mandatory Certifications: Certified Waste Management Specialist according to Romanian legislation. Environmental Auditor certification is a plus.
  • Legal Expertise: In-depth knowledge of Romanian and EU environmental legislation, the Industrial Emissions Directive, and Environment Fund Administration regulations.
  • Technical Literacy: Ability to understand complex industrial processes, mass balances, and air pollution control devices.
  • Soft Skills: Strong leadership capabilities, high resilience to stress, excellent negotiation skills and a proactive, "on-the-ground" problem-solving approach.
