Summary

This on-site role at New Mexico Highlands University focuses on ensuring campus safety and compliance with environmental health and safety regulations, primarily in a university setting.

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Office is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The EHS team oversees a broad range of safety programs, inspections, training, and compliance activities designed to prevent accidents, reduce hazards, and ensure the campus remains prepared for emergencies.
The EHS Office is responsible for the following areas:
  • Fire Protection and Life Safety: Oversee the maintenance, testing, inspection, and operational readiness of campus fire suppression systems.
  • Fire Extinguisher Inspections: Conduct monthly inspections and monitoring of more than 600 fire extinguishers throughout campus.
  • Emergency and Exit Lighting: Perform monthly inspections of more than 1,200 emergency and exit lights to ensure proper operation and compliance with applicable safety requirements.
  • Smoke Detector Maintenance: Coordinate and perform smoke detector replacement and related life-safety maintenance activities.
  • Fire Safety Training: Provide fire extinguisher training to campus personnel and other members of the campus community.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Conduct fire drills, evacuation exercises, and related emergency preparedness training.
  • Safety Compliance: Identify potential hazards, recommend corrective actions, and support compliance with applicable fire, environmental, health, and occupational safety requirements.
