Environmental Technician / Cleaning Technician

Position Title: Environmental Technician I

Department: Environmental Services

Employment Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Location: 320 Market Street, Harrisburg, PA 17101

Position Summary

The Environmental Services Technician helps maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment throughout assigned properties. This position is responsible for cleaning and sanitizing facilities, removing waste, restocking supplies, supporting events, and ensuring buildings meet cleanliness standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

60% - Cleaning & Sanitation

• Clean and sanitize restrooms, common areas, tenant spaces, and food court areas
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and maintain floors and surfaces throughout assigned properties

25% - Waste Removal & Restocking

• Remove trash and recycling, replace liners, and maintain waste receptacles
• Restock restroom and facility supplies as needed

10% - Communication & Customer Service

• Respond professionally to tenant and visitor requests
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding daily operations

5% - Event & Building Support

• Assist with room setups and breakdowns for meetings and events
• Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, and building issues

Job duties may change from time to time to meet the operational needs of the department and organization.

Required Skills & Abilities

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness
• Ability to work independently and efficiently manage time
• Good verbal communication and customer service skills
• Ability to operate cleaning equipment and use cleaning products safely
• Reliable attendance and transportation

Education and Experience

• Previous experience in custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, or environmental services preferred
• High school diploma or GED preferred

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, push, pull, climb stairs, and perform physical job duties throughout a scheduled shift
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally
• Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment and tools
• Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments as needed
