Estimator - Civil Construction

About the Company:

Our client is a leading civil contractor specializing in municipal infrastructure and transit-related projects, with expertise in underground utilities, roadworks, bridge construction, and large-scale excavations. Known for delivering high-quality and complex projects on schedule and within budget, the company is expanding its pre-construction team with a skilled Estimator who can support upcoming bids and long-term growth.

The Opportunity:

As a Civil Construction Estimator, you will play a key role in preparing accurate, competitive, and timely cost estimates for civil projects ranging from municipal infrastructure upgrades to major transit-related works. Projects typically range in value from $1 million to $100 million+, giving you the opportunity to work on some of the region’s most challenging and high-profile infrastructure developments.

Key Responsibilities:

- Prepare detailed cost estimates for projects in underground utilities, road construction, bridge works, and large excavations

- Analyze drawings, specifications, and addendums to determine project scope and requirements

- Conduct quantity take-offs, prepare unit pricing, and review subcontractor and supplier quotes

- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and clients during the bidding process

- Prepare tender submissions and ensure compliance with municipal and transit authority standards

- Monitor industry pricing, market conditions, and material/labour cost trends

- Support project teams during post-bid negotiations and project award transitions

- Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and key stakeholders

Qualifications:

- 5+ years of estimating experience in civil construction (preferably with underground utilities, roadworks, bridge construction, or transit-related infrastructure)

- Strong knowledge of municipal construction standards, MTO contracts, and transit authority specifications

- Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline preferred

- Proficient in estimating software (HCSS, HeavyBid, Bid2Win, or similar) and MS Office Suite

- Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills

- Strong communication and negotiation abilities

- P.Eng., CET, or PQS designation considered an asset
