Description

Job Summary

The Estimator – Level II independently prepares accurate, complete, and timely estimates for automatic door installation projects of routine to moderate complexity. This role is responsible for the estimating process from plan review and material takeoffs through vendor pricing, labor analysis, proposal preparation, and project handoff. The estimator applies established company standards and technical knowledge to resolve scope questions, assess installation risks, and develop cost-effective solutions while coordinating with sales, operations, and field teams. Complex or unusual conditions and exceptions to approved pricing or labor standards are escalated to leadership for review.

Core Values in Action

  • Confident: Applies working knowledge of automatic door systems, estimating tools, plans, specifications, and pricing practices; independently develops estimates and clearly explains scope, costs, assumptions, and recommendations.
  • Committed: Is responsible for assigned estimates from initial review through bid submission and handoff; validates quantities, pricing, and labor assumptions, meets deadlines, and escalates risks before they affect bid quality or delivery.
  • Compassionate: Listens to internal teams, vendors, contractors, and customers; communicates professionally, considers project and installation needs, and supports coworkers in resolving bid questions and handoff issues.
  • Innovative: Identifies practical improvements to estimating templates, cost data, and workflows; evaluates appropriate product alternatives and applies lessons from completed projects and field feedback.
  • One: Coordinates with estimating, sales, project management, field teams, and suppliers to align scope, resolve discrepancies, and deliver clear, actionable information for successful automatic door installation projects.

  • Selects and specifies automatic door operators, activation devices, sensors, controls, accessories, and related installation requirements consistent with project documents and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Obtains and evaluates vendor and supplier quotes for scope coverage, product suitability, availability, lead times, freight, and pricing; resolves discrepancies before finalizing estimates.
  • Develops labor and installation cost estimates using approved labor units and project-specific conditions, including access, phasing, equipment, freight, and other applicable costs; seeks approval for exceptions.
  • Prepares clear scope narratives, inclusions, exclusions, clarifications, and assumptions for proposals and internal bid reviews.
  • Identifies scope gaps, document conflicts, installation constraints, and cost risks; coordinates clarification requests and escalates unresolved or complex issues to leadership.
  • Prepares complete bid forms, proposals, and supporting documentation; verifies estimate accuracy and obtains required approvals before submission.
  • Maintains organized, traceable estimate files, including takeoffs, pricing sources, quotes, drawings, correspondence, and revision history.
  • Communicates directly with internal teams, vendors, general contractors, and customers to clarify estimating requirements and document scope decisions.
  • Presents assigned estimates in bid reviews and leads estimating handoffs to project teams, explaining scope, cost assumptions, procurement needs, and outstanding risks.
  • Coordinates with sales, project management, and field teams to validate installation assumptions and assess site conditions; incorporates project feedback into future estimates.
  • Applies working knowledge of automatic door products, installation methods, applicable safety standards, accessibility requirements, and manufacturer guidelines; seeks specialist review when needed.
  • Maintains estimating templates, cost information, and historical data within approved processes; recommends improvements and provides task-level guidance to less-experienced estimators as needed without formal supervisory authority.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
