DC Event Intern

Position Overview

The DC Event Intern will support Markham’s Events team in planning, coordinating, and executing events that bring mission-driven organizations and ideas to life. This role provides hands-on experience across event production, logistics, research, and operational support while working alongside experienced event professionals.

This internship is ideal for a motivated, detail-oriented individual who is interested in event production, operations, logistics, and the creative process behind delivering impactful experiences. The intern will gain exposure to all stages of event execution, from planning and preparation through onsite support and post-event follow-up.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with day-to-day event coordination, including organizing production materials, timelines, and team resources.

  • Support event planning and execution efforts, including logistics coordination, staffing, and onsite event support.

  • Assist with creative activations, brainstorming sessions, and post-event reporting.

  • Support speaker preparation, including coordination, recording, and technical assistance for virtual and hybrid events.

  • Assist with venue research, scouting, walkthroughs, and event preparation activities.

  • Conduct research projects to support event planning, operations, and organizational initiatives.

  • Assist with preparation of event documents, schedules, run-of-show materials, and other production resources.

  • Support cross-functional teams and collaborate with other departments as needed.

  • Provide general administrative and project support to the Events team.

  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Who You Are

  • Interested in pursuing a career in event planning, production, operations, hospitality, logistics, or progressive issue-based advocacy.

  • Previous experience in hospitality, events, customer service, or related fields is a plus.

  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.

  • Eager to learn, ask questions, and take initiative.

  • Resourceful problem solver with the ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

  • Professional communication skills and customer service mindset.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with team members at all levels.

  • Comfortable working in a high-energy, deadline-driven environment.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to travel locally for meetings, site visits, and events as needed.

Internship Program Details

Markham’s internship program is designed as a year-long opportunity running from September through August, providing interns with meaningful, hands-on experience while supporting real business initiatives throughout the year. This extended program allows interns to build professional skills, develop relationships, and contribute to impactful projects beyond a traditional semester-based internship.

  • Approximately 20–25 hours per week

  • Flexible scheduling to accommodate academic commitments

  • Paid internship ($20 per hour)

  • Opportunities to work additional hours outside of regular business hours and on weekends based on business needs and event schedules

  • Opportunity to extend the internship based on performance, business needs, and academic schedule

  • Occasional evening and weekend availability may be required, particularly during peak periods such as major events and election cycles
