Exasol Data Engineer
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Exasol Data Engineer based in United States.
This is a senior data engineering opportunity supporting healthcare analytics in a complex, data-intensive environment.
You will design, optimize, and validate high-performance SQL solutions that support clinical, operational, and value-based care initiatives.
The role combines deep SQL engineering with healthcare domain expertise, including claims data, quality measures, and clinical terminology.
You will work with Exasol and other MPP or columnar data platforms to build reliable, scalable, and well-documented data solutions.
The position also involves chart validation, collaboration with clinical and measure subject matter experts, and performance troubleshooting.
You will have significant autonomy and will be expected to diagnose complex data challenges, improve processes, and deliver accurate results with minimal oversight.
This role is well suited to a disciplined, technically strong engineer who understands both the data architecture and the healthcare context behind the numbers.
Accountabilities
- Design, develop, and optimize complex SQL queries using set-based logic, window functions, and advanced query-tuning techniques within Exasol or comparable MPP and columnar database environments.
- Extract and stage data from SQL Server sources, including through JDBC-based data loads.
- Build, maintain, and validate data pipelines that support healthcare analytics, clinical reporting, and operational outcomes.
- Perform chart validation by reconciling data extracts against medical records for sample patients and coordinating correction cycles with clinical and quality-measure subject matter experts.
- Apply healthcare terminology knowledge to accurately interpret and engineer data involving LOINC, ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS, SNOMED CT, and RxNorm.
- Support healthcare quality-measure development across eligible populations, denominators, numerators, exclusions, and value sets, including VSAC and NCQA requirements.
- Leverage Exasol in-database computing capabilities, including Python UDFs, script-language containers, and BucketFS model artifacts.
- Work with healthcare claims structures such as 837, 835, 834, CMS CCLF, and member-month analytic grain.
- Support value-based care analytics across MSSP, Medicare Advantage Stars, HEDIS, eCQMs, CQL, and HCC risk adjustment, including CMS-HCC V28.
- Investigate and resolve SQL performance issues, identifying the underlying causes of slow queries and implementing effective optimization strategies.
- Maintain disciplined engineering practices through version control, peer review, documented business and technical logic, and repeatable deployment processes.
- Collaborate with technical, clinical, and analytics stakeholders to ensure data solutions are accurate, reproducible, well documented, and aligned with project requirements.
- 5+ years of professional SQL data engineering experience, including at least 2 years working with healthcare provider or payer analytics.
- Deep and demonstrable SQL expertise, including set-based logic, window functions, query optimization, and performance tuning.
- Experience working with columnar or MPP database platforms and the ability to independently diagnose complex SQL performance problems.
- Direct Exasol experience is strongly preferred; experience with Snowflake, Redshift, Teradata, Vertica, or similar platforms is highly transferable.
- Experience extracting and staging data from SQL Server environments, including JDBC-based loads.
- Hands-on experience with chart validation, including reconciling analytical extracts against medical records and managing correction cycles with clinical SMEs.
- Working knowledge of healthcare terminology and coding systems, including LOINC, ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS, SNOMED CT, and RxNorm.
- Understanding of healthcare quality-measure structures, including eligible populations, denominators, numerators, exclusions, and value sets.
- Experience with healthcare claims data such as 837, 835, 834, CMS CCLF, and member-month analytical structures is preferred.
- Familiarity with value-based care programs, including MSSP, Medicare Advantage Stars, HEDIS, eCQMs, CQL, and HCC risk adjustment using CMS-HCC V28 is preferred.
- Experience with Exasol in-database compute capabilities, Python UDFs, script-language containers, or BucketFS model artifacts is an advantage.
- Strong engineering discipline, including version control, peer review, documentation, testing, and repeatable deployment practices.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize complex technical problems, and deliver high-quality results with minimal supervision.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
- Ability to work effectively in a fully remote environment.
