Executive Director, Information Systems & Support
General Definition of Work
The executive director of information systems & support, under minimal supervision, performs senior-level work with extensive decision-making discretion overseeing the district’s IT infrastructure, systems, and support services. This position is responsible for implementing technology systems, devices, training, and support in a K-12 environment. Employee performs advanced and supervisory work to carry out Board of Education policies and procedures related to business requirements and IT Solutions under the direction of the Chief Technology Officer.

Place of Work
The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.
Essential Functions
- Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
- Lead, manage, supervise, and evaluate assigned programs/staff in the district
- Oversee development and implementation of a data strategy for leveraging data as a strategic asset and in alignment with the district’s Strategic Plan
- Collaborate across divisions to develop a better understanding of processes and outcomes and driving results through data-informed continuous improvement
- Oversee support for computer hardware and support for teaching and learning
- Integrate asset management software system with other core enterprise systems
- Support the implementation and effective use of digital learning tools
- Manage procurement, inventory and surplus of technological equipment, systems, and related services for the purpose of ensuring that all technological purchases for goods and/or services are consistent with the district’s technology objectives
- Responsible for supporting large-scale IT initiatives within an educational environment
- Communicate department projects and district technology needs and solutions
- Complete budget assessments and requests for areas within assigned area
- Project management to include planning (scope, manpower, resources, budget), schedule (initial, adherence), and documentation (processes, schedule, training guides, etc.)
- Collaborate in the procurement of IT hardware and software
- Effectively collaborate with cross-functional areas for resolution of tickets and issues
- Oversee the creation and sustainability of standard operational procedures, best practices and other relevant documentation based on best practices, real-time and historical data, and reporting
- Develop and maintain processes for consistency and increased productivity
- Collaborate across departments to ensure that data reporting and business intelligence platforms maintain alignment with the district’s strategic priorities, business needs, and data security requirements
- Complete local, state, or federal surveys and reports accurately and promptly
- Participate in professional development workshops and leadership training
- Create an inclusive environment with positive communication/public relations
- Facilitate the development of the department’s improvement plan
- Perform related work as assigned or required
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Comprehensive in-depth knowledge and understanding of the principles, practices, and procedures of public school system technology requirements
- Comprehensive knowledge of servers, networks, cloud platforms, and storage systems
- Knowledge of enterprise software, operating systems, and database management
- Knowledge of security protocols, risk management, and compliance requirements
- Skilled in AI, automation, and digital transformation trends
- Skilled in software used in querying, analyzing, and reporting on enterprise data (SQL proficiency required)
- Skilled in negotiating and managing relationships with technology providers
- Skilled in working with large data sets from a variety of data systems
- Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- Ability to maintain professional and emotional control under stress
- Ability to reflect appropriate response to situations, while maintaining a professional and personal demeanor
- Ability to learn and use specialized tools, equipment or software related to business needs

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science or related area required
- Master’s degree in information technology management or related area preferred
- Minimum of Five (5) years’ experience in IT related role preferred
- Equivalent combination of experience and education
Special Requirements
- Possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License or ability to provide own transportation
- Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings
