Executive Manager, Group Payments Strategy
Group Payments Strategy leads the development of CBA’s group-wide payments strategy, connecting all payments products and all customer segments into a cohesive vision. Group Payments Strategy works closely with product and segment stakeholders from across the Group.
Payments Strategy sits within the Payments team. It works closely with product, digital, technology, strategy and partnerships teams across the bank – as well as the bank’s external industry representation and policy advocacy teams.
Make an Impact:
As Executive Manager, Payments Strategy you will lead the development and management of the CBA Payments Strategy. This is a highly visible and strategic role responsible for identifying and activating strategies that are aligned to CBA’s Strategy and Purpose. This role is for a strategic forward thinker, with a need to understand emerging technologies such as Agentic Commerce and Digital Assets and how they will support our strategy alongside existing payment products.
You will report directly into the General Manager Payments Strategy & Relationship Pricing, and lead a team of three direct reports. You will regularly engage with senior leaders and teams across the bank to solve the biggest unresolved payments opportunities and challenges facing CBA, and build alignment on strategic priorities to execute. In this role you will build a broad network across CBA to support professional opportunities for your future career at CBA.
Your responsibilities in this role will include:
- Development of the Group’s Payments Strategy, including the vision, ambition, strategic priorities, and associated metrics
- Engagements with internal stakeholders to coordinate and progress CBA’s Payments Strategy
- Responses to Executive Leadership and Board requests
- Engagements with Payments product teams to support the development of strategic product capabilities
- Identification of new strategic partnership opportunities for Payments Domain
- Engagements with external start-ups, big-tech, schemes and specialist businesses to evaluate and progress new partnership opportunities
- The Payments Community, which shares payments news and insights across the Group through events, webinars and newsletters
We are interested in hearing from people who have:
- 10+ years professional services experience, with background such as consulting, corporate strategy, corporate development and innovation
- Ability to deliver concise and compelling written and verbal updates to senior executives
- Highly skilled in structured problem solving, conceptual thinking, quantitative analysis, and prioritisation
- Experience innovating and optimising with AI, to help deliver higher-quality outcomes more efficiently
- Experienced in planning and delivery of strategy projects for senior leaders
- Ability to lead a small team that achieves maximum leverage across the bank through effective collaboration with a wide variety of teams
- Ability to engage and manage multiple senior stakeholders with contrasting views to develop alignment
- Ability to build strong working relationships with product and segment teams
- Strong commercial judgement in developing business plans for investment and partnership opportunities
- University degree qualification in business, economics, technology, law or commercially-related discipline
