Executive - Project Engineering

Haycarb PLC, a member of the Hayleys Group, is a global leader in coconut shell-based activated carbon manufacturing. We operate in key international markets, with manufacturing facilities in Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Indonesia, and marketing offices in the USA, Australia, and Europe. In Sri Lanka, our manufacturing facilities are in the Northwestern and Western Provinces.

We are seeking a dynamic, technically competent, and results-oriented individual to join our Engineering team as a Project Engineer. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an early-to-mid-career engineer to take ownership of capital and improvement projects across our manufacturing operations, while working closely with contractors, technology partners, and cross-functional teams in a fast-paced industrial environment.

Position: Executive – Project Engineer

Location: Haycarb Head Office , Colombo 10

Job Responsibilities:

  • Obtain and evaluate contractor quotations, prepare bid comparisons, and support contractor selection for machine fabrication and mechanical works.

  • Conduct factory/site inspections and provide technical guidance for fabrication, installation, repair, and maintenance activities.

  • Inspect fabricated machine components to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, dimensions, tolerances, and quality standards.

  • Coordinate precision machining, component repairs, welding, fabrication, casting, and other mechanical workshop activities.

  • Supervise contractors and workshop activities to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and within agreed timelines.

  • Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, production, maintenance, and other cross-functional teams to support engineering projects and maintenance requirements.

  • Support the Engineering team in mechanical troubleshooting, root-cause identification, and implementation of practical technical solutions.

  • Ensure compliance with company engineering standards, safety requirements, and applicable technical specifications.

Candidate Profile

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent technical qualification.

  • 2–3 years of relevant experience in mechanical fabrication, machining, maintenance, engineering projects, or a similar manufacturing environment.

  • Good knowledge of mechanical fabrication, welding, machining, casting, and workshop practices.

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and technical specifications.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and SolidWorks is essential.

  • Strong technical problem-solving, communication, coordination, and contractor management skills.

  • A practical, hands-on approach with the ability to work effectively with technical teams, contractors, and production personnel.

  • Willingness and eagerness to learn and adapt to a dynamic industrial environment.
