Job Title: Exercise Group Fitness Instructor

Department: Recreation

Location: 1500 E. Euclid, Mount Prospect, IL 60056

Reports To: Fitness Recreation Supervisor

Status: Part-time, Non-exempt

Essential Functions

The Group Exercise Instructor and Aquatics instructor (Summer Season Only) is responsible for teaching a quality group fitness class. They need to understand the needs and goals of participants and provide them with a positive, enjoyable and safe environment in which to achieve their fitness goals.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the park district’s policies and operations and enforce them in a positive manner
  • Provides a quality group exercise class that begins and ends on time
  • Records attendance numbers for every class
  • Greets members by name whenever possible
  • Shows interest and dedication to class and clients and minimizes the use of substitutes
  • Is professional at all times and serves as a good role model
  • Attend and participate in staff and training meetings
  • Attend workshops and conferences on a regular basis as directed
  • Perform other duties and functions as assigned

Risk Management

  • Obey the practical safety rules, regulations and procedures established by the safety program of the River Trails Park District.
  • Actively supports and enforces the safety program instituted by the Park District
  • Maintains a working knowledge of all general agency and department-specific safety rules
  • Attends required safety program and in-service education meetings as directed
  • Corrects unsafe conditions and/or reports them to your director supervisor
  • Enforces safety disciplinary policies and procedures
  • Uses protective gloves, masks and other personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent exposure to pathogens

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Group fitness instructors need to have or be working towards or obtains nationally recognized certification(s)

Recommended Qualifications:

  • Certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) within 3 months of employment

5. Employee will be required to perform the following work:

_ Sedentary Work Lifting 10 pounds maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as dockets, ledgers and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and other sedentary criteria are met.

Light Work. Lifting 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job is in this category when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree or when it involves sitting most of the time with a degree of pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls.

__X Light Medium Work. Lifting 30 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 20 pounds.

Medium Work. Lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Light Heavy Work. Lifting 75 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 40 pounds.

Heavy Work. Lifting 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
