Astoria is looking for an experienced evening Duty Manager to lead our night service. This role is hands-on and guest-focused, combining floor leadership, team management and maître d’ responsibilities in one of Wellington’s busiest hospitality environments.
You’ll be the face of the venue during dinner service, responsible for setting the tone on the floor, managing reservations and walk-ins, and leading the front-of-house team through smooth, confident service from start to finish.
About the role
This is an evening-focused position, working closely with the wider management team to deliver consistent, high-quality service. You’ll manage the flow of the room, oversee staff performance on shift, handle guest interactions and ensure service standards are upheld at all times.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading dinner service as the senior manager on shift
- Acting as maître d’, managing bookings, waitlists and the overall service
- Supervising and supporting the front-of-house team during busy services
- Handling guest feedback and resolving issues professionally and calmly
- Ensuring responsible service of alcohol and compliance with licensing requirements
- Coordinating closely with the kitchen to maintain service pace and quality
- Opening and closing the venue when required
About you
You’re a confident hospitality leader who thrives in fast-paced, evening service. You’re calm under pressure, personable with guests, and respected by teams on the floor. You take pride in creating a welcoming, well-run service environment and enjoy being visible and engaged throughout the night.
We’re looking for someone who has:
- Previous experience as a Duty Manager or senior FOH supervisor
- Strong floor presence and proven leadership during busy services
- Excellent communication and guest-facing skills
- A current LCQ and Manager’s Certificate
- Availability to work evenings and weekends
