Experienced Medical Assistant - Military Contract | Full-Time | Mon-Fri 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM
Location: Tricare Prime Clinic Virginia Beach - Naval Medical Center Portsmouth - 2100 Lynnhaven Pkwy, Virginia Beach, VA 23456
Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00am-3:30pm / 7:30am-4:00pm
Pay Rate: $22.05/hour
About the Role
We are seeking experienced Medical Assistants to support U.S. Navy. This role is ideal for candidates who completed a formal, in-person Medical Assistant program, gained hands-on externship experience, and have one year, post-graduation MA experience a clinical setting.
Minimum Qualifications (Required – Please Read Carefully)
Applicants must meet ALL requirements below to be considered.
Education (Required)
- High school diploma or GED AND
- Graduation from a formal Medical Assistant program that meets the following criteria:
- Program length of 6–12 months or longer
- In-person instruction required (online-only programs do not qualify)
- In-person clinical externship completed as part of the program
- Program must be accredited or approved by the Naval Base
***Important: Candidates who obtained an MA certificate (e.g., NHA) without completing a formal MA education program are not eligible for this role.
Experience (Required)
- Minimum of one (1) full year of Medical Assistant experience within the last three (3) years
- Experience must be:
- Completed AFTER graduating from a qualifying MA program
- Within the last three (3) years (2023 - 2026)
- Hands-on clinical MA experience with pediatric and geriatric patients
***MA experience obtained before completing MA schooling cannot be counted toward the one-year requirement.
Certifications & Clearances
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross – hands-on)
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Ability to pass all applicable background and security requirements
Additional Requirements
- Two (2) professional letters of recommendation dated within the last two (2) years (one from a supervisor & one clinician or clinic admin)
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
- Physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods and performing all essential duties
