About the position

Are you passionate about developing software that makes a real difference for patients, and would you like to contribute to the frontline of personalised medicine? The Department of Molecular Medicine (MOMA) at Aarhus University Hospital is looking for an experienced software developer for a full‑time permanent position, 37 hours per week, starting October 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

As personalised medicine continues to expand, you will be part of a closely integrated team of software developers and bioinformaticians working on the development and operation of bioinformatics pipelines and IT solutions for clinical diagnostics and research in a Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) laboratory. Your work will be carried out in close collaboration with users, including clinical academics, biomedical laboratory scientists and medical doctors, and will have direct relevance for patients with cancer or genetic diseases. You will also take part in interdisciplinary collaborations both within Aarhus University Hospital and with external partners from Aarhus University, the Danish National Genome Center and the other Danish regions. Opportunities to take on project management responsibilities may arise, depending on your interests and qualifications.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain bioinformatics pipelines and IT solutions for clinical diagnostics and research in a NGS laboratory.

Collaborate closely with clinical academics, laboratory scientists, and medical doctors, providing technical support and ensuring solutions meet user needs.

Participate in interdisciplinary projects across the hospital, university, and national partners.

Contribute to project management activities as opportunities arise.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in computer science or a related field (PhD is an advantage but not required).
  • Solid programming experience, especially in Python.
  • Strong skills in bash scripting, SQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, behaviour‑driven development (BDD).
  • Experience with Linux containers such as Docker or Podman.
  • Proficiency in DevOps practices, Linux, and Git‑based environments.
  • Familiarity with open‑source tools.
  • Interest in bioinformatics; prior specialist knowledge is not required but curiosity and openness to interdisciplinary collaboration are essential.
  • Ability to work independently and actively contribute to a team.

Salary and employment conditions

Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the applicable collective agreement. Employment is conditional upon a satisfactory child certificate.
