Export Controls and Trade Compliance Officer

Evolito’s mission is to accelerate the adoption of electric propulsion in aerospace applications in support of a net-zero world. We will help to revolutionise personal mobility and transform our towns and cities with clean, noise-free air transportation.

Evolito develops and manufactures class-leading, lightweight, high-power, and high-torque-density electric propulsion systems for a range of aerospace markets, including EVTOL, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and General Aviation.

As well as ultra-high performance, low-weight electric motors and controllers, Evolito specialises in high integrity, bespoke battery systems for the aerospace and defence markets. The team is scaling rapidly and has ambitious growth plans over the next twelve to eighteen months.

As part of our current high-growth phase, we are seeking an Export Controls and Trade Compliance Officer to support and continuously improve Evolito’s export controls, customs compliance and international trade framework. Acting as the company’s subject matter expert, the role will ensure compliance with UK, US and international regulations governing aerospace technologies, software, technical data and goods, supporting the safe and compliant movement of products and technology across global markets.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Support the development, implementation and maintainance of Evolito's Export Control, Customs Compliance and Trade Governance framework

  • Establish and maintain policies, procedures and internal controls to ensure compliance with the latest applicable UK, US and international trade regulations

  • Monitor regulatory changes, assess business impacts and implement required actions

  • Conduct compliance reviews, audits and risk assessments, maintain appropriate mitigation plans and records, and liaise with relevant compliance or regulatory officials on classification matters where required

  • Act as the company's subject matter expert for export controls, customs compliance and international trade regulations.

  • Determine export control requirements for products, software, technology and technical data liaising with engineering, logistics and regulatory officials as required

  • Manage product classification, export licensing activities and licence compliance obligations

  • Provide guidance on the transfer of controlled technology, technical information and software, including the use of digital collaboration and cloud-based systems

  • Ensure export control requirements are integrated into engineering, development, testing and customer support activities

  • Maintain compliance with customs, import and export regulations governing the international movement of goods

  • Oversee commodity classifications, country of origin determinations and trade documentation requirements

  • Partner with freight forwarders, customs brokers and logistics providers to ensure compliant and efficient international shipments

  • Identify opportunities to improve customs processes and minimise supply chain disruption and compliance risk

  • Lead sanctions, restricted party, end-user and end-use screening activities for customers, suppliers, partners and other third parties

  • Support commercial, engineering, programme and supply chain teams by assessing trade compliance risks associated with new products, projects, suppliers and markets

  • Provide practical compliance guidance that enables business growth while protecting the company from regulatory and reputational risk

  • Develop and deliver company-wide export control and trade compliance training programmes

  • Promote a culture of compliance and accountability across all functions

  • Drive continuous improvement of trade compliance processes, systems and reporting

  • Support the implementation of tools and digital solutions that improve compliance management and record keeping.

Skills and experience required:

  • Experience in export controls, customs compliance, trade compliance or international logistics within a regulated industry

  • Strong knowledge of UK export control legislation, dual-use regulations and international trade compliance requirements

  • Experience managing export licences, product classifications and customs compliance activities

  • Familiarity with EAR, ITAR and sanctions regulations

  • Experience using SPIRE, HMRC customs systems or trade compliance management tools

  • Understanding of technology transfer controls, including management of controlled technical information, software and data

  • Experience developing and implementing compliance procedures, governance frameworks and internal controls

  • Ability to assess compliance risks and provide practical, business-focused solutions

  • Strong stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills

  • Self-motivated with excellent organisational, analytical and problem-solving capabilities

  • A 'self-starter' attitude with energy and enthusiasm, with the ability to thrive in a small business environment

  • Ability to work under pressure while managing conflicting demands against tight deadlines

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • A flexible approach to work

  • UK Passport Holder and capable of achieving BPSS clearance.

Desirable:

  • Aerospace, Defence or Advanced Manufacturing experience.
