After School Care Assistant

Location: Roanoke Catholic School — Roanoke, Virginia
Employment Type: Part-Time, School Year
Hours: Monday–Friday, approximately 2:30–6:00 p.m.
Reports To: Director of Early Learning / After School Care Coordinator

Position Summary

Roanoke Catholic School is seeking a dependable, caring, and energetic After School Care Assistant to help provide a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for students after school. The ideal candidate enjoys working with children, demonstrates patience and professionalism, and supports the mission and values of Roanoke Catholic School.

Responsibilities

• Supervise students and ensure their safety and well-being.
• Assist with student check-in, dismissal, and parent/guardian pick-up.
• Lead and participate in indoor and outdoor activities, games, crafts, and free play.
• Assist students with homework, reading, and quiet activities.
• Help with snack distribution and clean-up.
• Encourage positive behavior and respectful interactions.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming environment.
• Follow all school safety, supervision, and child-protection policies.
• Communicate professionally with students, families, faculty, and staff.
• Perform other duties related to the After School Care program as assigned.

Schedule: Monday–Friday, approximately 2:30–6:00 p.m. during the school year, with occasional additional hours for early dismissal or special program days.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Dependable, patient, responsible, and able to work well with children of varying ages.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must successfully complete required background and child-safety screenings.
• CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
