Facilities HVAC/Building and Pool Technician
Description
The YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas, established in 1885, consists of 16 branches and 1 destination camp - all dedicated to building healthy, confident, connected, and secure children, adults, families, and communities.
The YMCA is seeking a full-time Facilities HVAC Technician to join our Maintenance team and support the operation, maintenance, and reliability of YMCA facilities, with a primary focus on our aquatic facilities.
The Facilities HVAC / Building Technician is responsible for the daily hands-on operation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems across the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas facility network. In addition to core HVAC duties, this role includes building technician cross-training to support general facility upkeep and pool filtration equipment. This role focuses entirely on physical execution and troubleshooting, ensuring a safe, clean, and functional environment for YMCA members, staff, and youth program participants without the administrative burden of budget or vendor management.
Key Responsibilities
* HVAC Maintenance & Repair: Troubleshoot, diagnose, maintain, and repair commercial HVAC systems, including rooftop packages, split systems, chillers, boilers, exhaust fans, and air handling units.
* Preventative Climate Care: Execute a rigorous preventative maintenance schedule—including filter changes, coil cleaning, belt replacements, and electrical checks—to maximize equipment lifespan and minimize facility downtime.
* General Building Trades: Perform facility maintenance tasks as needed, including replacing light bulbs, swapping out electrical switches, repairing or adjusting doors and hardware, and conducting minor sheetrock/drywall repairs.
* Minor Plumbing & Pool Equipment: Troubleshoot and resolve basic facility plumbing issues (fixing leaks, repairing fixtures). Assist from time to time with the basic mechanical maintenance and troubleshooting of commercial pool filtration and pump systems.
* Compliance & Safety: Ensure all HVAC/R and building operations comply with local codes, EPA regulations, and OSHA safety standards. Maintain clean, accurate logs of refrigerant usage.
* After-Hours Support: Occasional, critical after-hours emergency calls on a rare, as-needed basis to protect vital facility assets like indoor pools, fitness centers, and childcare spaces.
Required Qualifications & Perks
* Company Vehicle: A dedicated company truck is provided to the technician for professional use, including commuting to and from home and traveling between Dallas branch locations.
* Certification: Active EPA Type II Certification or Universal Certification (Section 608) is required to work on high-pressure commercial equipment. A Texas ACR Technician License or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) designation is a plus but not required.
* Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of hands-on experience in commercial HVAC maintenance, with a versatile background or willingness to learn general building trades, plumbing, and pool mechanics.
* Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in reading blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical schematics, alongside a multi-disciplinary troubleshooting mindset for varied building repairs.
* Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, work on facility rooftops, and safely navigate damp pool equipment rooms or mechanical spaces.
* Core Competencies: Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (strictly required to operate the company vehicle), a flexible mindset for occasional off-hours needs, and a mandatory commitment to passing a comprehensive background check required for youth-serving environments.
