Facilities Services Leader
The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in one of the SI facilities serviced by the Office of Facilities Management (FM). The Office of Facilities Management is responsible for all Smithsonian facilities, many of which are designated as historic and all of which are visited by millions of people each year.
The Facilities Services Leader is responsible for performing a variety of duties in zone to support overall facility maintenance; work including performing heavy manual tasks and maintaining facility cleanliness. The Facility Services Leader may be required to work late shifts, weekends and holidays. In this position, you will: Lead a team of Building Service Workers/Facilities Services Workers performing tasks involving physical labor and equipment operations as well as performing general custodial duties. Check work in progress and when completed to ensure supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met. Provide input to supervisor on performance appraisals and position descriptions and additional on the job training requirements for individual employees. Notify supervisor or leader of apparent defects in building and exhibit systems, such as, but not limited to, leaks, cracks, breaks, unusual smells, etc. as well as apparent safety hazards.
Conditions of Employment Physical Requirements: This position requires the physical ability to perform moderately heavy work including lifting and carrying heavy objects up to 50 lbs.; work outside in all weather conditions with exposure to dirt, dust, pollen and insects; climb ladders and stairs; and stand and walk for extended periods.
