Family Support Specialist

Monday -Friday 35 hours per week.

Family Support Specialists provide parenting information, coaching and support to first time young parents via a home visiting model and through group activities. Family Support Specialists work with families from early pregnancy up until their child's third birthday.

Education: Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Preferred minimum two years of college in Human Services, Early Childhood education or related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred with fluency in reading, writing and speaking both English and Spanish. Infant Mental Health endorsement preferred.

Experience: Experience working with and providing services to adolescents, infants and toddlers and knowledge of infant/child development, family dynamics and humility in working with culturally diverse populations, demonstrated ability to communicate with a wide variety of people, knowledge of health, social service and family support resources in the community, and experience with accessing and utilizing these resources.

Worker Traits: Oral and written communication skills sufficient to assist others in understanding educational materials to communicate related health, parenting and resource information to families, to make referrals and to complete family records; ability to form supportive relationships with new parents, their children and other family members. Must have available transportation to provide services in clients’ homes and to get to onsite locations, sensitivity to family health issues and child development.
