Fiberglass Patch / Refinish Technician

Pay Range: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
(Actual pay offered will be based on experience, skill level, and qualifications.)

Position Summary

Sea Fox Boats is seeking an experienced Fiberglass Patch / Refinish Technician to join our production team. This position is responsible for repairing, patching, sanding, blending, and refinishing fiberglass surfaces on newly manufactured boats to ensure a smooth, consistent, high-quality finished product. The ideal candidate has marine manufacturing experience, strong fiberglass repair and finishing skills, excellent attention to detail, and takes pride in producing a quality finished product.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform fiberglass patching, repair, sanding, blending, and refinishing on boats throughout the production process.

  • Repair fiberglass defects, imperfections, voids, cracks, pinholes, scratches, and other surface issues.

  • Apply fiberglass materials, resin, fillers, and related repair products according to production specifications.

  • Sand and feather repaired areas to create smooth, seamless transitions with surrounding surfaces.

  • Perform grinding, filling, fairing, sanding, buffing, and polishing as required.

  • Match and blend repaired areas to surrounding fiberglass and gel coat surfaces.

  • Prepare surfaces for gel coat, paint, or other finishing processes.

  • Inspect completed repairs to ensure proper appearance, smoothness, consistency, and quality.

  • Identify and correct surface imperfections before boats move to the next stage of production.

  • Follow production specifications, work instructions, repair procedures, and quality standards.

  • Safely operate hand tools, power sanders, grinders, buffers, and other fiberglass repair equipment.

  • Maintain proper use and care of fiberglass, resin, fillers, abrasives, and finishing materials.

  • Communicate material shortages, quality concerns, or recurring production issues to leadership.

  • Maintain an organized work area and properly care for tools and equipment.

  • Work collaboratively with other production team members to maintain workflow and meet production goals.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience in marine manufacturing, boat building, fiberglass repair, or a similar marine production environment is required.

  • Previous experience with fiberglass repair, patching, sanding, fairing, gel coat, or refinishing is required.

  • Strong knowledge of fiberglass repair and surface preparation techniques.

  • Ability to identify fiberglass defects and determine the appropriate repair method.

  • Ability to blend and finish repaired areas to meet established quality standards.

  • Strong understanding of sanding, grinding, filling, fairing, buffing, and polishing techniques.

  • Ability to read and follow work instructions, production specifications, and repair procedures.

  • Experience safely using hand tools, power tools, sanders, grinders, buffers, and related equipment.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

  • Ability to troubleshoot surface and fiberglass repair issues.

  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively as part of a production team.

  • Strong visual attention to detail and ability to recognize differences in surface texture, finish, and appearance.

  • Dependable attendance and ability to meet production schedules.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and reach for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to work in a marine manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, fiberglass materials, resins, chemicals, and varying temperatures.

  • Must be comfortable working inside and around boats during various stages of production.

  • Ability to work in awkward positions and confined areas when required.

  • Ability to perform repetitive hand, arm, and wrist movements required for sanding, grinding, patching, and refinishing tasks.

  • Must follow required safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
