Field Engineer - Tunnel
Summary
Tunnel Field Engineer supporting the Stanley Park tunnel project in Vancouver, providing technical coordination for tunnelling operations, monitoring construction progress, and ensuring quality and safety standards are met. The Tunnel Field
Engineer is responsible for coordinating construction activities related to
tunnelling operations and works closely with superintendents and subcontractors
to ensure production targets, project schedules, quality standards, and health
and safety requirements are achieved.
Construction
Coordination
- Provide technical coordination and support
for tunnelling activities within the assigned work area.
- Collaborate with Superintendents,
Forepersons, and subcontractors to ensure construction activities are
executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with the project schedule.
- Participate in construction planning and
identify potential site constraints and operational risks.
- Monitor daily work progress and
productivity.
- Prepare and maintain accurate site reports, production records,
and technical documentation.
- Attend and contribute to daily and weekly coordination
meetings.
Technical Support
- Provide day-to-day technical support to
construction crews.
- Ensure construction activities comply with
approved drawings, methods, specifications, and procedures.
- Monitor and track installed quantities and
production metrics.
- Participate in inspections, testing
activities, and quality control processes.
- Identify technical risks that may impact
cost, schedule, safety, or quality objectives.
- Assist in the preparation and evaluation
of change orders, claims, and variation requests.
Engineering and
Documentation
- Prepare and manage Requests for
Information (RFIs).
- Assist the Project Manager in developing
construction methods, work procedures, and technical documentation.
- Coordinate technical interfaces between
engineering, construction teams, consultants, and clients.
- Investigate and help resolve engineering
and construction issues encountered in the field.
- Maintain project records and ensure
documentation is up to date and properly filed.
Health, Safety and
Environment
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure
all work is performed in accordance with project Health and Safety
requirements.
- Participate in Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs),
Safe Work Plans, and pre-task planning activities.
- Verify that approved work methods and
safety procedures are implemented in the field.
- Report unsafe acts and conditions and
participate in incident investigations when required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering,
Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience
in tunnel construction projects.
- Experience with one or more tunnelling
methods including:
- Conventional tunnelling methods
- New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM)
- Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM)
- Microtunnelling
- Strong understanding of construction
drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with Primavera P6, Microsoft
Project, AutoCAD, and/or Bluebeam is considered an asset.
- Strong organizational, planning, and
problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a
fast-paced construction environment.
- Ability to work rotating day and night
shifts, as well as weekends when required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication
skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment
to quality.
- Self-motivated and proactive.
- Team-oriented with strong interpersonal
skills.
- Adaptable and responsive in a dynamic construction environment.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple
priorities and meet deadlines.
- Fluency in English, both written and
spoken, is essential.
- French language skills are considered a
strong asset.
- Work is performed in active tunneling and
underground construction environments.
- Exposure to confined spaces, underground
conditions, dust, noise, and varying weather conditions.
- Day, night, and weekend shifts may be
required based on operational needs.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Geographic mobility and willingness to
relocate for future project assignments are considered assets.

In accordance with applicable pay transparency legislation, EBC Inc. has included the expected salary range for this role, which is $90,000 - $140,000. Compensation within the range is determined based on relevant experience, qualifications, localization, and internal equity. Base salary is one component of EBC’s comprehensive total rewards offering, which may include performance-based incentives, extended health and wellness benefits, retirement savings programs, and career development opportunities.
