Description

Field Operations Continuity Manager

Salary: £40,000 to £45,000
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week
Location: Home-based when not deployed, with UK-wide travel
Reporting to: Head of Field Operations

The Role

TLG TurnITon is looking for an experienced Field Operations Continuity Manager to provide technical and operational cover across our school and trust customers.

This is a nationally deployable role focused on maintaining contracted IT services during vacancies, extended absence, recruitment gaps and new service mobilisation. Assignments may involve covering an Onsite Engineer, IT Manager, Trust IT Manager or a comparable position.

You will need to become effective quickly in unfamiliar environments, assess customer priorities and provide hands-on technical support, service management and temporary operational leadership where required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide temporary technical and operational cover in line with customer commitments and contractual requirements.
  • Quickly understand unfamiliar IT infrastructure, systems, service arrangements and customer priorities.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues independently within managed service boundaries.
  • Coordinate technical colleagues, prioritise workloads and monitor service standards when required.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching and practical support to colleagues.
  • Escalate significant technical, operational, contractual or customer risks appropriately.
  • Maintain oversight of priorities, service risks, outstanding issues and customer expectations.
  • Produce clear and practical handovers for returning or newly appointed colleagues.
  • Support service improvement, technical assurance, risk reduction and customer mobilisation between deployments.
  • Work closely with Regional Managers, the Service Desk, Projects, Account Management and wider operational teams.

About You

You will have:

  • Strong hands-on IT support experience within a multi-site, field-based or managed service environment.
  • Broad knowledge of IT infrastructure, networking, Microsoft and Google cloud services, endpoint management and cybersecurity fundamentals.
  • The ability to diagnose technical issues and make sound decisions with limited handover or supervision.
  • Experience coordinating technical resources and setting day-to-day priorities.
  • Strong customer service judgement, with the ability to balance contractual scope, operational capacity and customer expectations.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with confidence working with school and trust leaders, technical colleagues and senior managers.
  • A structured approach to handovers, including clear communication of priorities, risks, outstanding work and customer context.
  • A full UK driving licence and the ability to undertake regular UK-wide travel and extended weekday stays away from home.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain enhanced DBS clearance.

Experience within education technology, schools or a managed service provider would be beneficial. We would also welcome experience at IT Manager, Trust IT Manager or senior field engineer level, particularly where this has included temporary cover, service recovery, customer mobilisation or operational transition.

Travel Requirements

This role involves extensive travel across the UK, including regular or extended weekday stays away from home. Mileage reimbursement is available.

Routine weekend, out-of-hours work and weekend travel are not expected.
