Field Service Technician

As a Field Service Technician, you will carry out preventative maintenance, corrective repairs, and diagnostics on both diesel-powered and Electric Vehicle (EV) mobile equipment across workshop and field locations. In this customer-oriented role, you will deliver exceptional workmanship, ensure high quality within acceptable timeframes, and champion a zero-harm safety culture while keeping vital global supply chains moving.
What are your key responsibilities:
- Maintenance & Repairs: Carry out preventative maintenance servicing, corrective repairs, and warranty work on diesel-powered and EV mobile equipment across field and workshop sites in strict accordance with factory specifications and PM schedules.
- Diagnostics & Fault-Finding: Perform mechanical and electrical fault-finding and emergency breakdown repairs, utilizing electrical schematics, symbols, AC/DC motors and drives, and structured troubleshooting techniques.
- Workmanship & Quality: Ensure all servicing and repair work is performed efficiently and to an exceptional standard, operating mechanical equipment to verify the completeness and correctness of all repairs.
- Customer Relationships: Actively build positive customer partnerships and a profitable service business by delivering timely service, reviewing completed work directly with the client, identifying additional service opportunities, and leaving customer sites clean and tidy.
- Safety & Compliance: Strictly adhere to company HSE regulations, aiming for zero accidents by completing daily Take 5 risk assessments, conducting vehicle inspections, and maintaining 5S standards.

What you bring to the role:
- Qualifications: A recognised Mechanical, Plant Mechanic, or Diesel Mechanic trade qualification (Cert III level), with completion of Year 10 preferred.
- Technical Experience: A minimum of 5 years post-apprenticeship experience specialising in fault-finding, repairs, and preventative maintenance on heavy mobile plant (e.g., container handling equipment, heavy-duty forklifts, earthmoving, or mining equipment).
- Systems Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of hydraulics, electronics, drivetrains, and diesel engines, along with an understanding of Electric Vehicle (EV) systems and battery charging management.
- Safety Orientation: A strong safety mindset dedicated to working safely, preventing driver fatigue, and complying with all workplace safety regulations.
- Customer & Team Focus: Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to manage customer relationships and work autonomously without direct supervision.
- Licences & Certifications: A valid manual driver’s licence (LR to MR licence beneficial). High Risk Work Licences (Forklift, Elevated Work Platform) and an Automotive Air Conditioning licence are highly regarded.
