Field Service Technician - Automated Packaging Equipment
Description
Toronto, ON | 70–85% Travel Across Canada & the U.S.
Do you enjoy figuring out why a machine isn't working and getting it back into production?
Harpak-ULMA is looking for an experienced Field Service Technician with strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills to install, service and support automated packaging equipment at customer facilities throughout Canada and the United States.
This is a 70–85% travel position and a strong fit for someone who enjoys working independently, solving different technical problems, and interacting directly with customers.
What You'll Do
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical equipment issues.
- Install, set up and support automated packaging machinery at customer facilities.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical and PLC-related problems.
- Provide onsite and remote technical support.
- Perform equipment adjustments, calibration and maintenance.
- Work directly with customers to diagnose problems and identify solutions.
- Train customers on proper machine operation and basic equipment care.
- Partner with technicians, engineers and service managers on more complex technical issues.
- Document service calls and technical solutions accurately.
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of hands-on mechanical and electrical troubleshooting experience.
- Experience with industrial machinery, automated equipment, packaging machinery or comparable electromechanical systems.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Familiarity with PLC-controlled equipment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
- Professional communication and customer-service skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel 70–85% throughout Canada and the U.S.
- Ability to meet applicable cross-border travel requirements.
Experience That Would Be a Plus
We'd especially value experience with:
- Automated packaging equipment
- Food-processing equipment
- Filling, weighing or dosing systems
- Conveyors and material-handling equipment
- Industrial automation
- PLC troubleshooting
You don't need experience with every type of equipment we support. If you've developed strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills working on comparable industrial machinery, we encourage you to apply.
Use that last sentence only if the hiring team genuinely accepts transferable experience.
We'll Invest in Your Training
You aren't expected to know every Harpak-ULMA system on day one.
You'll continue developing your technical skills through online learning, hands-on training and field shadowing with experienced technicians, while building knowledge across multiple equipment technologies and product lines.
Why This Role
Technical variety
Work across different equipment technologies, customers and applications rather than maintaining the same machinery every day.
Hands-on problem solving
Diagnose real equipment issues and help customers get their operations running again.
Continued technical development
Build deeper experience across mechanical, electrical, controls and automated equipment.
Independence with support
Work independently in the field while having access to experienced technicians, engineers and service managers when you need additional expertise.
