Field Supervisor
JOB SUMMARY: The Softball and Pickleball Field Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the assigned softball fields and pickleball courts for youth and adult softball leagues. This is an at-will position. Primary duties include:
- Check the field conditions for obstacles, holes, water that may make the field unplayable.
- Set up the fields/courts with appropriate equipment (nets, bases, chalk lines) and any other necessary equipment.
- Manage the field throughout all games, handling problems with teams, players and umpires, following the rules and regulations set by the Park District.
- Keep the book for the league current, entering any new information given by the Recreation Supervisor.
- Collect scores and signatures from the teams at the end of the game and route to Recreation Manager in mutually agreed upon schedule.
- Interact with people in a professional and friendly manner.
- Answer all questions from players, and on lookers, to the best of your knowledge. If you do not know the answer, direct them to contact the Recreation Supervisor at the Park District; or take their name and number, come ask the supervisor, and report back to the individual with the answer.
- Monitor the playing field, bathroom facility and any other immediate grounds for problems and attempt to solve to the best of your ability.
- Monitor the weather for unsafe conditions (lightning, hail, tornado).
- Monitor the lights on the lighted fields. Making sure they turn on and off on time and understand how to fix any problems with them. Employee will be responsible for setting the lights during league games.
- Clean up and put away all equipment, league book.
- Notify the Recreation Supervisor of any concerns.
- Attend district part-time staff orientations, crisis trainings and office staff trainings as directed.
- It is the responsibility of all Park District employees to pick up litter throughout the building, grounds, and facilities of the District.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 16 years of age with the ability to use initiative to problem solve. Must be mature and responsible with strong interpersonal skills and outgoing personality. Prior knowledge and experience working with sports, leagues, and/or teams a plus. Must be able to sit/stand for periods of time outdoors in varying weather conditions. First Aid, CPR/AED certification required.
SCHEDULE & PAY: Schedule includes Friday evenings 6pm-10:30pm during the months of August through October at McKenzie Field in South Salk Park and Kimball Hill Park. The pay range for this position is $15-17 per hour, depending upon qualifications. Plus applicable facility and program discounts.
