Field Technician II

The Field Technician II role is responsible for independently performing standard audiovisual installation tasks while meeting the company’s installation, safety, and quality standards in commercial environments. This position includes reading drawings, completing terminations, and supporting more complex installations with limited supervision across corporate, education, healthcare, hospitality, and government facilities. The Field Technician II independently performs structured cabling and termination tasks and provides hands on assistance with rack builds and equipment staging under the direction of a Senior Field Technician or Field Foreman. This role requires proficiency in industry standard cabling practices and the ability to complete terminations accurately and consistently. The Field Technician II is expected to complete assigned tasks correctly the first time with minimal supervision, following documented instructions, project plans, and company standards.

ORGANIZATION

This position reports to the Field Operations Manager and is an individual contributor. This role is part of the Field Operations department under the Chief Operating Officer.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Audio Visual Installation & Integration

• Installing displays, projectors, screens, speakers, microphones, cameras, and related AV hardware per drawings and scope of work.
• Performing device mounting using appropriate hardware, anchors, and fastening methods.
• Executing work in accordance with installation standards, manufacturer requirements, and site conditions.
• Maintaining clean, organized, and professional work areas throughout the installation.
• Protecting client property, finishes, and equipment during all installation activities.
• Identifying issues that could impact quality, safety, or schedule and escalating early.
• Owning the quality of the execution. Rework due to improper installation, missed steps, or failure to follow standards is not tolerated.

Cabling, Terminations & Rack Assistance

• Pulling, routing, supporting, and dressing copper and fiber cabling in compliance with standards.
• Performing cable terminations (crimp, punch-down, captive screw, and basic fiber as assigned).
• Properly labeling cables, devices, and terminations per project requirements.
• Assisting with rack fabrication, equipment mounting, power distribution, and basic signal flow organization.
• Supporting rack cleanup, dressing, and final presentation prior to inspection or turnover.
• Clear understanding of why cabling standards exist and execute them correctly without shortcuts. If unclear on termination methods or rack layout, ask before proceeding

Drawing Review & Jobsite Coordination

• Reviews drawings, cable schedules, and installation documentation to understand assigned tasks and coordinate work effectively on the jobsite.
• Capable of interpreting documentation and identifying conflicts or missing information but does not make independent scope changes or schedule commitments.
• Reading and interpreting installation drawings, signal flows, and cable schedules.
• Identifying discrepancies between drawings and site conditions and escalating promptly.
• Verifying device locations, mounting details, and cabling paths before installation.
• Coordinating work sequencing with other technicians, trades, and site leadership as directed.
• Avoiding assumptions; asking clarifying questions when instructions are unclear. Escalate to the Field Technician Senior or Field Foreman immediately any condition that could delay work or impact quality.

Quality Control & Safety Compliance

• Responsible for following all safety procedures and ensuring work meets company standards before moving on to the next task.
• Wearing required PPE and always follow all jobsite safety rules.
• Proper use of ladders, lifts, tools, and equipment.
• Maintaining clean, hazard free work areas.
• Self checking work for accuracy, completeness, and workmanship.
• Reporting unsafe conditions, incidents, or near misses immediately.
• Responsible for stopping work and escalating when conditions are unsafe or standards cannot be met. Safety shortcuts, ignored PPE requirements, or repeat quality issues are unacceptable.

Documentation & Reporting

• Responsible for documentation and reporting requirements necessary for project tracking, closeout, and accountability.
• Accurate and timely documentation enabling the team to address issues early and avoid downstream failures.
• Providing progress updates or status reports when requested.
• Assisting with photo documentation of installed work.
• Reporting material shortages, damaged equipment, or missing components.
• Supporting redlines or punch documentation as directed.
• Completing required daily or end of day reports per company process.

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• OSHA 10 Certification.
• AVIXA CTS preferred (or willingness to obtain; company-supported)

EXPERIENCE

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in commercial AV installation.
• Experience with structured cabling and device mounting is preferred.

• Valid driver’s license and ability to operate company vehicles.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
• Ability to learn AV tools, systems, and standards.
• Ability to read drawings and cable schedules
• Ability to grasp and apply new information quickly and handle increasing responsibilities with growing complexity.
• Ability to follow instructions and safety procedures.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. independently and up to 75 lbs. with assistance.
• Ability to travel and work overtime when required
