Field Technician Senior

The Field Technician Senior serves as the technical leader on active job sites, owning the execution, coordination, and quality of complex audiovisual installations. This role bridges hands on technical work with job site leadership, ensuring that installation activities are performed correctly the first time and in alignment with company standards for quality, safety, and performance.

This position supports and elevates Field Technicians, Field Foremen, and project teams through expert installation, mentorship, onsite oversight, and accountability. The Field Technician Senior is expected to lead proactively, identify risks early, and enforce standards consistently. At this level, rework is considered a failure—not a learning event—and quality must be built into every phase of execution.

ORGANIZATION

This position reports to the Field Operations Manager and is an individual contributor with job-site leadership responsibilities. This role is part of the Field Operations department under the Chief Operating Officer.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Crew Leadership & Daily Coordination

• Provide daily technical leadership on job sites, helping ensure work is properly sequenced, staffed, and executed according to plan.
• Coordinating daily installation activities under the direction of the Lead Technician or Field Foreman.
• Leading or supporting daily jobsite huddles as needed.
• Assigning and adjusting tasks to technicians based on skill level and workload.
• Monitoring progress and identifying risks to schedule, safety, or quality.
• Acting as a technical point of contact for on site questions and clarification.
• Escalates personnel or scope issues to the Foreman or Operations leadership.

Audio Visual Installation & Integration

• Independently executes advanced installation tasks and supports system testing, verification, and commissioning readiness.
• Installing and integrating complex AV systems including conferencing, control, DSP based audio, and networked AV
• Verifying signal flow, power sequencing, and device functionality
• Supporting functional testing and pre commissioning activities
• Assisting with system validation prior to customer turnover
• Identifying and correcting installation deficiencies before commissioning
• Expected to catch and correct issues before they become failures downstream.

Quality Control & Standards Enforcement

• Accountable for maintaining installation quality and enforcing company standards across the job site.
• Verifying work meets installation standards and manufacturer requirements.
• Inspecting completed work and addressing deficiencies immediately.
• Preventing rework by correcting issues early.
• Reinforcing safety, cleanliness, and professionalism expectations.
• Stopping work and escalating when standards cannot be met.

Mentorship & Training

• Plays a key role in developing field talent and preparing technicians for advancement.
• Demonstrating correct installation techniques and best practices.
• Providing real time coaching and constructive feedback.
• Reinforcing company expectations for safety, quality, and accountability.
• Supporting onboarding and skill development efforts on site.
• Demonstrating mentorship to Field Technician I, Field Technician II, and Field Technician III through consistent example and accountability.

Documentation & Reporting

• Supports reporting and documentation required for jobsite execution and closeout.
• Providing accurate progress updates to Leads, Foremen, or Project Managers.
• Supporting redlines, punch lists, and verification documentation.
• Assisting with photo documentation and issue tracking.
• Escalating risks, delays, or technical concerns early to prevent downstream failures and protects schedules.

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• OSHA 30 Certification.
• AVIXA CTS
• AVIXA CTS-I or advanced manufacturer certifications preferred (QSC, Biamp, Creston, etc.)

EXPERIENCE

• Minimum 7 years’ experience in commercial AV installation.
• Prior leadership or crew-lead experience preferred.

• Ability to grasp and apply new information quickly and handle increasing responsibilities with growing complexity.
• Ability to follow instructions and safety procedures.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. independently and up to 75 lbs. with assistance.
• Ability to travel and work overtime when required.
