Finance Analyst (Banking/CBD/1 Year Contract/Up to $7000)
Role Overview
The role will support the delivery and continuous improvement of financial and workforce management information for controllers and management. The successful candidate will take ownership of recurring MIS and analytics processes, apply strong analytical judgement to validate and interpret reported outputs, and surface material trends, anomalies and issues requiring management attention.
The role will also contribute to reporting and dashboard enhancements, process improvement, automation, knowledge management and selected AI-enabled finance initiatives. It requires someone who can work independently across finance processes, data and technology, while engaging effectively with controllers, business users and technical stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
1) Financial and FTE Management Information
a) Own the preparation, validation and timely delivery of recurring financial and FTE management information for controller and management reporting.
b) Challenge reported outputs and investigate discrepancies by tracing results to the relevant source data, business rules and reporting logic.
c) Translate complex analysis into clear, concise and actionable management insights.
d) Support recurring management reporting across Support Unit Controllers, central MIS and related finance processes.
e) Maintain appropriate validation checks, reconciliations, working papers and audit trails to support the integrity of reported information.
2) Reporting and Dashboard Capabilities
a) Support the development and continuous enhancement of finance dashboards, management reports and analytical views.
b) Translate business and controller requirements into clear reporting specifications, test scenarios and implementation requirements.
c) Perform data validation, user acceptance testing and impact assessment for dashboard, report and data-pipeline changes.
d) Coordinate issue resolution and change implementation with business users, dashboard developers and relevant technology teams.
e) Review reporting outputs from an end-user and management perspective, including usability, consistency, relevance and presentation quality.
3) Process Improvement and Automation
a) Map existing finance and MIS workflows to identify pain points, control gaps, duplication and opportunities for simplification or automation.
b) Drive smaller process-improvement initiatives from requirements gathering through testing, implementation and documentation.
c) Improve the efficiency, scalability and control of recurring MIS processes through standardisation and appropriate automation.
d) Develop or enhance Python, SQL, Excel or other data-processing solutions where appropriate.
e) Support practical AI and automation initiatives for finance, including knowledge bases, team agents, chatbot use cases and productivity solutions.
f) Evaluate user feedback and operational results to recommend further refinements after implementation.
4) Knowledge Management and Governance
a) Develop and maintain process guides, standard operating procedures, validation checklists, configuration guides and user documentation.
b) Structure finance reference materials, frequently asked questions and business rules into accessible knowledge repositories.
c) Ensure recurring processes are sufficiently documented and are not dependent on the knowledge of a single individual.
d) Maintain clear issue logs, change records, testing evidence and decision trails for implemented enhancements.
e) Support appropriate finance controls, data-handling requirements and governance standards across assigned workstreams.
5) Stakeholder and Project Management
a) Work closely with finance controllers and management to understand requirements, investigate issues and deliver fit-for-purpose solutions.
b) Coordinate across business, reporting, data and technology stakeholders to progress enhancements and resolve dependencies.
c) Manage assigned deliverables independently, including priorities, timelines, status updates, risks and follow-up actions.
d) Support selected cross-team initiatives across MIS, cost management, allocations, analytics and finance transformation.
Requirements
a) Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Analytics, Data Analytics, or a related discipline.
b) Approximately 5 to 6 years of relevant experience in finance analytics, management information reporting, process improvement or a related role.
c) Strong analytical and critical-thinking capabilities, with the ability to challenge numbers, identify anomalies and determine whether outputs are reasonable.
d) Experience working with financial, expense, workforce or other management-reporting data.
e) Demonstrated ability to manage recurring deliverables accurately and independently within reporting timelines.
f) Strong Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint capabilities.
g) Practical experience with dashboarding or business-intelligence tools, preferably Tableau or a comparable platform is preferred.
h) Working knowledge of SQL, Python or other data-processing and automation tools is preferred.
i) Experience in requirements gathering, process mapping, data validation, user acceptance testing and issue tracking.
j) Organised, detail-oriented and comfortable managing multiple workstreams and stakeholder expectations.
k) Self-motivated, adaptable and able to operate effectively in a collaborative finance environment
