Finance Manager
Description
Based in Singapore within Eastern Pacific Shipping's Financial Control team, the Finance Manager (Cost Control) plays a key role in ensuring the accurate recognition and monitoring of capital and operational expenditure across the company's diverse fleet of vessels. This is a role that sits at the intersection of finance, operations, and technology — offering the opportunity to work closely with fleet managers, commercial heads, and cross-functional teams while contributing meaningfully to the financial integrity of a leading global shipping group.
Key Responsibilities
- Liaise with the Sale and Purchase department to facilitate vessel acquisitions, ensuring new builds and acquired vessels are accurately set up in the system with milestone payment schedules and contract timelines.
- Collaborate with fleet managers to ensure drydock and planned capital projects are recorded in the system with approved budgets captured in Oracle.
- Upon completion of vessel deliveries, drydock projects, or other capital initiatives, ensure costs are adequately accrued and perform capitalisation in Oracle.
- Review and monitor balance sheet accounts for Projects in Progress at each month-end, adjusting accruals as required until project closure; ensure non-capital costs are correctly coded to operating expense accounts.
- Engage fleet managers in the annual and quarterly operating budget and forecast process, maintaining the 5-year OPEX forecast in Oracle for management reporting purposes.
- Monitor vessel operating cost accruals at each month-end to ensure OPEX is accurately and completely reported.
- Track year-to-date spend and revise full-year estimates by vessel and segment, providing meaningful commentary on variances and deviations from budget.
- Collate OPEX data to support benchmarking exercises such as BCG and other periodic reviews.
- Develop a strong working knowledge of Compass, IMOS, and other in-house systems and their integration with Oracle ERP, ensuring costs are correctly mapped to the appropriate Chart of Accounts.
- Partner with fleet managers and internal stakeholders to implement new or revised processes and workflows that support efficient, straight-through processing of financial data into Oracle.
Requirements
- Degree in Accountancy or equivalent professional qualification.
- At least 2 to 3 years of experience in a similar finance role within the maritime industry.
- Solid understanding of accounting standards and their application to expense recognition and capital projects.
- Proficient in Excel and data visualisation tools, with the ability to produce clear management reports and financial analytics.
- Experience with Oracle ERP, particularly the Projects and GL modules, is strongly preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage confidently with cross-functional and external stakeholders.
- Skilled in data mining and analysis, with the ability to distil large volumes of complex financial data into clear and actionable insights.
- Experience in building or enhancing finance processes and internal controls is an advantage.
