Are you an experienced Finance Manager who enjoys being hands-on, taking ownership and overseeing the full finance function within a busy industrial environment?

We are recruiting for an established industrial business in the M17 area of Manchester, seeking a proactive and commercially aware Finance Manager to lead its finance function and ensure the smooth running of all financial operations.

This is a varied, hands-on role offering the opportunity to take responsibility for everything from management accounts and cash flow to weekly payroll, statutory compliance and year-end preparation.

The business has a down-to-earth working environment and is looking for someone organised, detail-focused and confident managing a team, who can hit the ground running and support a smooth handover.

The Role

Reporting into the senior management team, you will take ownership of the day-to-day finance function, maintaining effective processes, controls and procedures across the business.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and managing the finance function, ensuring accurate and timely financial information.
  • Preparing monthly management accounts and supporting year-end accounts.
  • Managing cash flow and monitoring the financial position of the business.
  • Overseeing the purchase ledger, sales ledger, journals, accruals and general ledger activity.
  • Taking full responsibility for the weekly payroll for approximately 70 employees.
  • Calculating payroll, PAYE, National Insurance contributions and attachment of earnings.
  • Managing HMRC enquiries and ensuring payroll and tax compliance.
  • Preparing and submitting VAT and tax returns.
  • Coordinating audit preparation and liaising with external accountants.
  • Managing utility contracts and costs across multiple sites.
  • Maintaining robust financial controls, processes and procedures.
  • Leading and supporting the finance team to ensure an efficient and accurate service.

About You

We are looking for a confident, hands-on finance professional who enjoys variety and is comfortable taking responsibility for the full finance function.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Proven experience in a Finance Manager or similar senior finance role.
  • A broad finance background covering management accounts, ledgers, payroll and financial reporting.
  • Experience within a manufacturing, packaging, industrial or similar operational environment.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll processing, PAYE, National Insurance, attachment of earnings and HMRC requirements.
  • Experience with VAT returns, tax compliance and audit preparation.
  • The ability to manage cash flow, journals, accruals and year-end processes.
  • Experience using Sage 50 Accounts.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including working with timesheets and payroll hours.
  • Experience managing or supervising a team.
  • Excellent organisational skills, accuracy and attention to detail.
  • A proactive approach, with the ability to work independently and take pride in delivering high-quality work.

You will be someone who is comfortable rolling up your sleeves, managing competing priorities and ensuring everything runs smoothly.

What's on Offer?

  • Salary: £55,000–£60,000, depending on experience.
  • Permanent, full-time position.
  • Monday to Friday, 8:30am–4:30pm, with flexibility to start and finish earlier by agreement.
  • 20 days' annual leave plus bank holidays, with three days reserved for the Christmas shutdown.
  • Company pension.
  • Free on-site parking.
  • Kitchen facilities.
  • Casual dress.
  • A friendly, down-to-earth working environment.
