Financial Analyst – FP&A

About the Role

Rize Federal Credit Union is looking for a Financial Analyst – FP&A to own the credit union's forward-looking financial picture. You'll lead the annual budget, run the reforecast cycles that follow it, build the balance sheet and income projections that go to the Asset Liability Committee and the Board, and explain how actual results compare to plan.
You'll maintain one documented assumption set across loan, deposit, investment, and expense projections, so every forecast we publish reconciles to the same inputs. This is an individual contributor role reporting to the Vice President, Finance.

What You'll Do

Budgeting and forecasting

  • Lead the annual budget cycle end to end: calendar, templates, departmental input, consolidation, review, and the final Board-approved package.
  • Build and maintain balance sheet, income statement, and capital projections under the assumption set approved by the VP, Finance.
  • Produce volume projections for loan production, certificate maturities and rollovers, cash flow, and deposit growth.
  • Run two reforecast cycles per year, documenting what changed against the original budget and why.
  • Maintain the forecast model, including documentation, version control, and a traceable path from every input to every published figure.

Variance and attribution analysis

  • Produce monthly budget variance analysis for the balance sheet and income statement, with a written narrative explaining each material variance, not just its size.
  • Break interest income and interest expense variances into rate and volume components.
  • Analyze operating expense variances, including compensation, fee income, and non-operating items.
  • Track the full-year outlook against budget and flag emerging shortfalls early enough for management to act.

Cash flow and liquidity analysis

  • Produce the monthly Cash Flow Projection Report for the Asset Liability Committee.
  • Back-test cash flow forecasts against actual results twice a year, documenting variance drivers and model adjustments.
  • Monitor and project cash requirements, cash availability, and funding requirements, including daily cash position and short-term funding analysis.

Reporting integrity and automation

  • Produce recurring deliverables using the department's analytical and automation tooling, and verify every published figure against its source before release.
  • Produce the monthly Contingency Funding Report, including liquidity stress scenarios and available borrowing capacity.
  • Forecast liquidity and periodically back-test those projections.
  • Prepare and upload quarterly asset liability management data to our ALM service provider.

What You Bring

Required

  • At least 3 years of financial analysis experience, preferably in a financial institution
  • Demonstrated ownership of a full annual budget cycle, from calendar through Board-approved package
  • Proven experience building and maintaining multi-year financial forecasting models
  • Experience producing variance analysis with a written explanatory narrative, not variance columns alone
  • Strong financial statement knowledge and an understanding of the structure of a credit union or bank balance sheet and income statement
  • Working knowledge of interest rate risk, deposit behavior, and loan prepayment behavior, and how each affects a forecast
  • Demonstrated ownership of a recurring deliverable through a full production cycle, including reconciliation and integrity checks, whether manual or automated
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, business administration, or a related field
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex formulas, PivotTables, and other methods of working with large datasets
  • Experience with a budgeting and forecasting platform
  • Familiarity with SQL and the ability to write queries against a core or data warehouse extract
  • Experience with a general ledger system, including retrieving account-level detail and reconciling a report to it

Preferred

  • MBA, CFA, CMA, or Certified Corporate FP&A Professional
  • Experience with data visualization software such as Power BI or Tableau

How You Work

  • Ability to specify a deliverable before producing it: the objective, the check that proves the result correct, and the ordered steps
  • Understanding of how datasets are structured, including what uniquely identifies a record and how combining two sources can duplicate or drop records
  • Understanding of why a repeatable process must produce the same result when run twice, and of the controls that prevent double-counting or overwriting a prior period
  • Ability to describe an error in terms of the expected result, the observed result, and where the two diverge
  • Ability to document a recurring process well enough that another team member can run it without help
  • Sound judgment in handling member-level data, including recognizing when aggregated figures will do instead of identifiable records
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with a friendly and professional demeanor
  • Ability to present analytical results to audiences without a finance background, including the Board of Directors
  • Composure under deadlines that demand extreme accuracy, and the ability to juggle multiple, changing priorities
  • A high level of integrity, the highest level of discretion on confidential matters, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • This is a primarily sedentary, onsite role at our Irwindale headquarters, in a climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.
  • You'll work at a computer an average of 6–8 hours a day and occasionally lift up to 10 lbs.
  • You must be able to work extended hours when required or requested by management, and to climb or descend stairs in an emergency.
  • Occasional travel may be required for meetings, conferences, and training.
  • Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Location: Headquarters – Irwindale, CA (Remote and Hybrid Option is available)
  • Salary range (California residents): $77,000 – $99,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications
  • Reports to: Vice President, Finance
  • Classification: Exempt, full-time; no supervisory responsibilities
  • Work environment: primarily sedentary, computer-based work in a shared office; extended hours may be required at times and occasional travel for meetings, conferences, and training
