Financial Controller

Discussion
We're Avvoka

We build legal drafting technology for moments that matter - when the stakes are high, the
documents are complex, and speed can't come at the cost of control.

Our platform helps legal teams move faster through contracts using automation, collaboration, and
AI - without taking judgment away from the lawyers who own the risk. We believe technology
should amplify expertise, not replace it.

Avvoka is trusted by leading law firms, banks, and global enterprises, and we've grown through
product strength and word of mouth alone. With headcount and revenue increasing by over 70%
year on year, we're scaling from a product-led success into a globally recognised legal-tech brand.

We're at an inflection point: evolving how the world's most sophisticated legal teams work - and
building a company where thoughtful people can do the best work of their careers. Finance is what
keeps that growth on solid ground, and this role sits right at the centre of it.

Responsibilities

Own the numbers

• Prepare monthly management accounts end to end - journals, accruals and prepayments, and
balance sheet reconciliations - producing a meaningful share of the output yourself
• Deliver full P&L, balance sheet and cash flow reporting, with variance analysis and commentary
finance leadership can act on
• Run the month-end close timetable and land the deadlines, consistently

Build the control framework

• Design, implement and maintain a robust internal control framework across finance, and own
reconciliation review and sign-off
• Lead preparation of the statutory accounts and act as the main point of contact for our external
auditors
• Keep us compliant with UK/US GAAP and the tax and regulatory requirements that come with
scaling internationally

Lead, partner and improve

• Line-manage, coach and develop the Assistant Accountant, reviewing their accounts payable,
receivable, payroll and expense processing
• Support the budgeting and forecasting cycle, and the analysis behind board and investor
reporting
• Find and implement AI tools that strip manual effort out of reconciliations, reporting and the
close - and bring the team with you as you do

Requirements

You'll be the senior finance presence in a business that is scaling quickly, owning the numbers end to
end - from a clean month-end close through to statutory accounts and audit. Twelve months in,
you'll have built the control framework a growing SaaS company runs on, put AI to work across
reconciliations and reporting, and developed our Assistant Accountant into a genuinely strong
finance professional.

This is a lean finance function, not a large corporate one. Transaction volumes are manageable, but
the judgement required is real - and so is the ownership. It's a hands-on role: you'll personally
produce a meaningful share of the output, not just review someone else's.

Benefits

The ideal candidate would have:

• Fully qualified accountant (CPA or equivalent) with several years' post-qualification experience
owning management accounts and financial control
• Strong working knowledge of UK and/or US GAAP
• Experience managing or mentoring a junior finance colleague, alongside a genuine appetite for
hands-on production work
• A practical adopter of AI tools, with a track record of using them to make finance processes
faster
• Excellent English communication skills, and the confidence to explain financial information to
people outside finance
• A proactive, ownership-driven mindset that stays composed and adaptable in a fast-moving
scale-up
Bonus points if you have:
• Experience preparing statutory accounts and liaising with external auditors
• Exposure to budgeting, forecasting or wider FP&A support
• A background in B2B SaaS, with cloud-based finance, expense and AI-enabled finance systems

Equal opportunities
We are an equal opportunity employer that celebrates diversity and inclusion. We welcome
applications from individuals of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences - including those from
underrepresented groups - and are happy to provide reasonable adjustments for candidates with
disabilities during the recruitment process.
