About the Role

We are a group of companies with operations spanning metal recycling and oil distribution, seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead the finance function across the group. This is a hands-on leadership role overseeing consolidated financial reporting, cost control, cash flow, and compliance across multiple entities operating in different but related industrial sectors. The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting skills, experience managing multi-entity/group accounts, and commercial exposure to either scrap metal/recycling or bulk commodity trading environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee full spectrum of financial and management accounting across group entities
  • Consolidate financial statements across multiple companies within the group
  • Manage cash flow, working capital, and banking relationships (including trade financing facilities)
  • Monitor margins across both metal recycling (scrap pricing, processing costs) and fuel distribution (fuel pricing, inventory costing) segments
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, budgets, and forecasts for each entity and on a consolidated basis
  • Ensure compliance with tax, GST, and statutory reporting requirements across the group
  • Liaise with auditors, bankers, and relevant regulatory bodies (e.g. NEA licensing for scrap/recycling and fuel-related permits)
  • Implement and strengthen internal controls and financial systems group-wide
  • Support senior management with financial analysis for pricing, procurement, capital expenditure, and inter-company transactions

Requirements

  • Degree in Accountancy/Finance; CA/CPA qualification preferred
  • Minimum 5 years' relevant experience, with at least 3 years in a controller/senior finance role
  • Experience managing accounts for a group of companies/multiple entities strongly preferred
  • Experience in metal recycling, scrap trading, oil/fuel distribution, or bulk commodity industries an advantage
  • Strong knowledge of Singapore tax, GST, and financial reporting standards, including consolidation
  • Proficient in accounting software and Excel; ERP experience an advantage
  • Meticulous, hands-on, and comfortable working across an SME group structure with diverse operations

Detailed Job Scope

Position: Financial Controller
Reports To: Managing Director / Group General Manager
Department: Group Finance & Administration
Scope: Multiple entities under the group, spanning metal recycling and oil distribution

1. Group Financial Reporting & Accounting

  • Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for each entity
  • Consolidate accounts across the group, eliminating inter-company transactions where applicable
  • Ensure accounting records comply with Singapore Financial Reporting Standards (SFRS)
  • Oversee month-end and year-end closing processes across all companies
  • Manage fixed asset register, depreciation schedules, and inventory valuation (scrap metal stock and fuel stock)

2. Cash Flow & Treasury Management

  • Monitor daily cash position across entities, given the differing cash cycles of scrap trading and fuel distribution
  • Manage banking relationships, trade financing, letters of credit, and overdraft facilities for the group
  • Forecast cash flow needs tied to purchasing cycles (scrap intake, fuel procurement) and customer credit terms
  • Manage inter-company loans/advances and ensure proper documentation

3. Costing, Margins & Pricing Support

  • Metal recycling segment: Track scrap purchase costs, processing/sorting costs, and sale prices to monitor margins
  • Oil distribution segment: Track fuel purchase costs against selling prices, monitor margins amid crude/fuel price fluctuations
  • Analyse cost variances (transport, storage, wastage/shrinkage, processing losses)
  • Support management in pricing decisions across both segments

4. Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Lead annual budget preparation for each entity and on a consolidated group basis
  • Provide variance analysis against budget with actionable commentary by segment

5. Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure timely filing of GST, corporate tax, and statutory submissions for each entity
  • Liaise with external auditors, tax agents, and company secretary across the group
  • Maintain compliance with relevant licensing requirements (e.g., NEA licenses for scrap/recycling operations, petroleum storage/distribution licenses)
  • Strengthen internal controls, particularly around cash handling, scrap/fuel stock reconciliation, and credit control
  • Monitor and manage related-party transaction disclosures

6. Credit Control & Receivables

  • Oversee customer credit terms and collections across segments
  • Monitor aging receivables and manage bad debt provisions

7. Team & Systems Management

  • Supervise accounts/admin staff across the group
  • Standardise accounting policies and reporting formats across entities
  • Drive improvements in accounting systems, ERP integration, and reporting automation
  • Ensure proper documentation and audit trail for all transactions across companies

8. Business Partnering

  • Provide financial insights to support group expansion, capex decisions, tenancy/lease renewals, and equipment purchases
  • Support financial modelling for new ventures, loan proposals, or feasibility studies across either business line
  • Advise management on capital structure and funding across the group
