Description

Role: Financial Controller & Head of Taxation

Department: Finance & Accounts

Location: Gurugram

Role Overview:

Stashfin is seeking a dynamic, hands-on, and technically strong finance leader for the role of Financial Controller & Head of Taxation.

In this role, you will lead the core accounting operations, financial controllership, statutory audit delivery, and taxation strategy across our digital lending and NBFC operations. You will act as the key custodian of our books, ensuring clean balance sheets, airtight internal financial controls, and seamless regulatory reporting.

The ideal candidate brings strong post-qualification experience across NBFCs, fintech lending platforms, or fast-scaling tech companies, with direct exposure to Ind AS financial closures, loan book reconciliations, and direct/indirect tax management.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Financial Controllership & Financial Closures:

- Drive monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closures within tight reporting timelines.

- Lead standalone and multi-entity consolidation under Indian Accounting Standards (Ind AS).

- Maintain complete oversight of General Ledger (GL) accounts, sub-ledgers, fixed assets, and intercompany reconciliations.

- Partner with the FP&A team to establish variance analysis mechanisms (Budget vs. Actuals) and provide controllership inputs on unit economics and operational spend.

2. NBFC & Digital Lending Controllership:

- Oversee end-to-end loan accounting processes, including disbursement reconciliation, EMI collections, batch cancellations, and co-lending settlements.

- Supervise Expected Credit Loss (ECL) provisioning and loan staging under Ind AS 109 in coordination with Risk and Analytics teams.

- Ensure accurate accounting and tracking of structured debt transactions, including Direct Assignment (DA), Pass Through Certificates (PTC), and FLDG structures.

- Assist treasury and leadership in maintaining liquidity monitors, ALM trackers, and lending partner covenant compliances.

3. Statutory, Internal & Tax Audits:

- Serve as the day-to-day lead interface for Big-4 / top-tier statutory auditors, internal audit partners, and tax auditors.

- Prepare audit schedules, lead sheets, notes to accounts, and statutory disclosures to ensure zero-observation, timely audit sign-offs.

- Oversee corporate compliance filings in coordination with Legal and Secretarial teams, including DPT-3, MSME returns, and MCA annual forms.

4. Direct & Indirect Taxation Governance:

- Lead corporate tax management: advance tax computations, annual ITR filings, tax audit reports (Form 3CD), transfer pricing documentation, and deferred tax workings under Ind AS 12.

- Manage indirect taxation end-to-end: monthly GSTR-1, GSTR-3B filings, annual GSTR-9/9C returns, and proactive Input Tax Credit (ITC) tracking across state registrations.

- Handle tax assessments, notices, and routine departmental inquiries, working alongside external tax counsels to draft structured submissions.

- Ensure accurate TDS/TCS deductor compliance on vendor payments, contractor billing, and statutory remittances.

5. Accounts Payable, Controls & Automation:

- Supervise Accounts Payable (AP) workflows, enforcing 3-way matching, vendor reconciliations, and strict MSME payment timelines.

- Drive finance automation projects: integrating internal LMS/LOS systems and payment gateway rails with enterprise ERPs (SAP S/4HANA / Oracle NetSuite).

- Review and tighten Internal Financial Controls (IFC) across transaction lifecycle and operational workflows.

6. Team Leadership:

- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 6 - 10 finance professionals across AP, GL accounting, and tax compliance.

- Instill strong standards of accuracy, documentation hygiene, and audit readiness across the department.

Desired Candidate Profile:

Qualifications & Experience:

- Chartered Accountant (CA) is preferred.

- 7 - 10 years of post-qualification experience in core controllership, accounting, and taxation.

- Proven experience in an NBFC, Digital Lending/Fintech entity, or Retail Lending institution is essential.

- Articleship or prior tenure with a Big-4 audit firm is strongly preferred.

Technical & Functional Competencies:

- Strong practical command over Ind AS (especially Ind AS 109, 115, 116, and 12).

- Thorough familiarity with digital lending operations, payment reconciliation, and RBI NBFC regulatory reporting norms.

- Hands-on knowledge of Indian corporate tax laws, GST frameworks, and litigation handling.

- Advanced proficiency in enterprise ERP systems (SAP S/4HANA preferred) and high comfort working with large data sets in Excel.
