Key Accountabilities
- Oversee month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes, ensuring journals, reconciliations, review controls and reporting timetables are completed accurately and on time.
- Maintain ownership of the general ledger and balance sheets for legacy entities, ensuring financial records are complete, accurate and appropriately supported.
- Review financial results, including variance analysis against the run off plan, ensuring key movements are understood and clearly explained.
- Deliver monthly and quarterly Management Metrics Reports, Closing packages and supporting schedules under both FRS 102 and IFRS 17 in functional and reporting currencies including appropriate commentaries.
- Provide finance inputs and analysis for regulatory reporting, ensuring consistency with accounting records, reporting assumptions and entity-level review.
- Manage statutory financial statement production under FRS 102 and IFRS 17, coordinating inputs, reviews and audit deliverables through to completion.
- Act as the key contact for internal and external auditors on entity reporting matters, resolving queries and ensuring supporting evidence is clear, complete and timely.
- Lead, coach and develop team members, ensuring high-quality outputs, strong technical capability and adherence to financial control standards.
- Maintain and strengthen the financial control environment, including governance documentation, control remediation activities and review of work prepared by others.
- Build effective relationships across Finance, Actuarial, Claims, Reinsurance, Tax, Treasury and Group Finance teams to support effective management of legacy entities.
- Deliver process improvements and reporting enhancements that strengthen controls, improve efficiency and increase transparency in co-ordination with the finance change team.
- Comply with Health & Safety, Conduct Risk and other applicable company policies and regulatory requirements.
Knowledge & Qualifications
Essential
- Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
- Insurance or reinsurance industry experience.
- Strong knowledge of FRS 102 and IFRS 17.
Desired
- Experience with regulatory reporting and Solvency II.
- Exposure to finance transformation and reporting system change projects.
- Experience within a legacy, run-off or discontinued insurance business environment
Skills & Demonstrable Experience
- Significant experience within the UK insurance or reinsurance sector, including responsibility for legal entity reporting, financial control and governance.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge, particularly FRS 102, together with experience of IFRS 17, statutory accounts preparation and regulatory reporting.
- Proven analytical capability, including interpretation of financial results, reserve movements, balance sheet trends and the delivery of clear, insightful commentary to senior stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of financial controls, balance sheet reconciliations, governance and audit requirements, ensuring accounts are appropriately supported and evidenced.
- Experience managing month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across Actuarial, Claims, Reinsurance, Tax, Treasury, Group Finance and external auditors.
- Experience leading, coaching and developing others, maintaining high standards of accuracy, control and continuous improvement through effective review and challenge.
- Advanced Excel and finance systems skills, with a track record of enhancing reporting processes, strengthening controls and delivering results in a deadline-driven environment.
