Financial Operations Specialist
Role Overview
The FinOps Specialist is a key individual contributor within the Finance team, supporting the performance and continuous improvement of Mumzworld’s financial operations. The role executes financial process reviews, maintains controls, and supports compliance across finance operations. It provides accurate analysis and insights that help the team make sound operational decisions.
The ideal candidate comes from an internal audit background, with solid grounding in risk, controls, and process reviews. They are now looking to apply that experience hands-on in a fast-paced, high-growth e-commerce environment.
From Internal Audit to FinOps: Why Your Background Fits
FinOps and Internal Audit share the same core DNA: identifying risks, evaluating processes, and designing controls. Where they differ is in how far you go. Internal Audit typically reviews established processes, assesses their risks, and presents recommendations, leaving implementation to management. This FinOps role closes that gap between risk advisory and hands-on implementation.
Here, you get involved earlier. You’ll help assess risks and embed preventive, detective, and corrective controls into business verticals before they launch. Instead of stepping away once a report is delivered, you’ll stay close to the work: implementing controls, monitoring financial compliance, and following issues through to resolution.
That’s why we’re looking for internal audit professionals. Your grounding in risk assessment and control frameworks is essential to this role, and this role gives you the chance to build, implement, and maintain those solutions directly within the business.
What You’ll Be Doing
Financial Operations Support: Support delivery of the financial operations agenda, including process design, optimization, and scalability initiatives. Identify process gaps and help implement solutions, from recommendation through to rollout.
Financial Controls & Governance: Maintain and update the internal control framework, including policies, procedures, and Risk Control Matrices. Perform gap assessments, support remediation plans, and assist internal and external auditors with information requests and walkthroughs.
Risk-Based Process Reviews: Apply an internal audit approach to review key financial and operational processes, such as procure-to-pay, order-to-cash, inventory, and record-to-report. Assess control design and operating effectiveness, perform controls testing, document results, and track findings through to closure.
Financial Analysis & Reporting: Prepare financial analysis, reports, and performance tracking. Share findings and recommendations with the FinOps Lead and function head to support operational and commercial decisions.
Automation & Finance Systems: Contribute to finance automation and systems initiatives. Support the implementation, testing, and optimization of financial systems, reporting tools, and automation platforms to improve efficiency.
Ownership of Deliverables: Take ownership of assigned initiatives and deliverables. Manage your own priorities, meet agreed timelines, and contribute to a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with Operations, Technology, and Commercial teams to gather information, resolve issues, and support the delivery of cross-functional initiatives.
Finance Transformation Support: Support finance transformation programs and projects through analysis, documentation, process mapping, and coordination with stakeholders.
What You’ll Need
Experience
The Foundation: 3–5 years of post-qualification experience, with a strong background in internal audit (Big 4 risk advisory or in-house internal audit). Experience executing audit fieldwork and control reviews.
The Background: Experience auditing or working within consumer-focused businesses, e-commerce, FMCG, retail, or high-growth environments is preferred. Exposure to finance operations beyond audit is a plus.
The Track Record: Hands-on experience performing internal audits, preparing Risk Control Matrices, conducting controls testing, and following up on remediation with process owners. Familiarity with frameworks such as COSO, ICFR, or SOX is desirable.
Qualification
Education: CA / CPA / ICAEW / ACCA qualification required. A CIA (Certified Internal Auditor) or similar audit certification is an advantage.
Analytical & Technical Capability: Strong financial analysis skills, with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and good PowerPoint skills. Experience with ERP systems and BI or reporting tools is expected. SQL or automation tool knowledge is a plus.
Mindset & Skills
Risk & Control Mindset: Brings an auditor’s eye for risk, a habit of asking why, and the judgment to balance controls with business practicality.
Analytical Rigor: Highly detail-oriented, with the ability to turn financial data into clear, well-documented findings and recommendations.
Ownership & Accountability: Takes ownership of assigned work, manages multiple priorities, and delivers reliably in a fast-paced environment.
Communication: Clear written and verbal communication, with the confidence to engage process owners and explain findings across teams.
Eagerness to Learn: Curious and keen to grow beyond audit into broader finance operations and business finance.
Individual & Collaborative Attributes
Self-Driven Professional: Works independently with appropriate guidance, self-motivates, and invests in their own professional growth.
Continuous Improvement Mindset: Looks for ways to improve processes, controls, and efficiency in day-to-day work.
Team Player: Works closely with the FinOps Lead, finance colleagues, and business teams to solve problems and get things done.
