Job Title: Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Internship
Pay Type: Hourly
Department: Accounting
We have a Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) internship available at the Hy-Vee Corporate Office in West Des Moines, Iowa. The internship will be from mid-May through mid-August in 2027. This Monday through Friday paid position will be 40 hours per week with the potential for occasional overtime. Time off for the holidays will be offered along with flexibility in the schedule to allow for more free time if needed.
General Function
The FP&A intern is mainly responsible for the recurring reporting that the finance team completes on a weekly, monthly, or quarterly basis. In addition to reporting, expectations would be that they contribute to the annual budgeting process along with any other ad hoc analysis requests. This position requires a basic understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, attention to detail, and accuracy.
Reporting Relations
Accountable and Reports to: Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Supervisor
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Work alongside upper-level accounting and finance staff
- Complete recurring weekly, monthly, and quarterly financial and KPI reporting
- Support the budgeting and forecasting process by gathering data, building models, and updating financial assumptions
- Conduct variance analysis to compare actual results versus budgets/forecasts
- Complete ad hoc analysis requests from operational executives to support decision making
- Attend monthly accounting department meetings
Internship Highlights
- Visit various Hy-Vee supply chain and manufacturing facilities that contribute to the overall retail grocery business line
- Weekly intern meetings with various members of accounting department leadership group including the Controller and Chief Financial Officer
- Attend annual Go Big Show event where operations meets with vendors highlighting products for the upcoming holiday season
- Attend scheduled lunches with various members of the accounting staff
- Attend annual all-accounting department summer outing
- Attend all-Hy-Vee intern socials to network with interns across Hy-Vee’s entire network
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required; minimum of two years of relevant college education and working towards a bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting or finance.
