Summary

On-site engineer commissioning and certifying fire alarm and AOV systems across London and occasionally the UK, ensuring life safety compliance and producing documentation.

  • Commissioning and certifying Fire Alarm and AOV (Automatic Opening Vent) systems
  • Programming and testing life safety systems.
  • Reading drawings and site mark-ups with confidence.
I'm recruiting on behalf of one of my long-standing clients, and if you're a Fire Alarm Commissioning Engineer who's starting to wonder if the grass might actually be greener elsewhere... it could be worth a five-minute chat.

This isn't one of those "we're like a family" adverts. It's a solid business with a great reputation, plenty of work, and a team that genuinely looks after its engineers.

What will you be doing? You'll mainly be working on client sites across London, with the odd trip further afield and the occasional overnight stay when needed. No two days are the same, and you'll be trusted to get on with the job without someone constantly looking over your shoulder.

Your day-to-day will include:
  • Commissioning and certifying Fire Alarm and AOV (Automatic Opening Vent) systems.
  • Programming and testing life safety systems.
  • Producing clear and accurate cause and effect documentation.
  • Reading drawings and site mark-ups with confidence.
  • Working alongside the Design, Projects and Maintenance teams to make sure everything runs smoothly.
  • Responding to the occasional emergency call-out and joining the on-call rota (currently just one week in every eight).
  • Completing the usual paperwork, vehicle checks and project sign-offs (I know... everyone's favourite part!).
What am I looking for? If you can tick most of these boxes, I'd love to hear from you:
  • Experience commissioning fire alarm systems to BS 5839.
  • A good understanding of AOV systems, fan motors, inverters and detection systems.
  • Installation or commissioning experience on live sites.
  • Comfortable working independently and making decisions on site.
  • Computer literate and happy using digital systems.
  • Experience with advanced fire systems would be a bonus, but it's certainly not a deal breaker.
  • Full UK driving licence.
What's in it for you? The salary is genuinely negotiable depending on your experience, so if you're good at what you do, my client is prepared to pay accordingly.

You'll also get:
  • 23 days holiday plus bank holidays, increasing with service (up to 30 days).
  • Company performance bonus (at Directors' discretion).
  • Company vehicle and fuel card.
  • Uniform, PPE, power tools and test equipment supplied.
  • Optional private healthcare after successfully completing probation.
Fancy a chat? Even if you're not actively looking, it's always worth knowing what's out there. Sometimes the best opportunities come along when you're least expecting them.
