Fire Protection Engineer I
Description
Newcomb & Boyd is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer I in our Atlanta, Georgia office. This person will be responsible for executing engineering tasks, help manage components of projects, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the design and development of MEP-T systems using Revit and discipline- specific modeling/calculation software.
- Perform basic calculations and simulations.
- Assist senior engineers with complex designs, plans, and calculations.
- Assist in reviewing product submittals and shop drawings.
- Respond to RFIs for assigned scope.
- Conduct site visits under supervision to assess project progress.
- Prepare technical reports and documentation.
- Participate in internal project meetings, offering technical support as needed.
- Stay current with industry trends and MEP engineering advancements.
- Complete assigned work within project workplan timeframes.
- Submit work for review by senior engineers before client delivery.
- Comply with QA/QC procedures and assist in developing project workplans.
- Client interaction as needed.
Qualifications
Education & Licensure
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Fire Protection Engineering.
- Professional licensure or certification preferred (EIT, PE etc.)
Experience
- Entry level to Six (0-6) years of experience preferred
Technical Skills
- Experience with Revit and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Understanding of engineering principles and building systems.

- Ability to follow directions and learn new concepts quickly.
Communication & Business Skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Supervisory Responsibility
No direct supervisory responsibilities. May mentor co-ops or interns under supervision.
Work Environment
Primarily office-based with occasional project site visits requiring adherence to safety protocols and use of PPE.
Physical Demands
Ability to sit/stand for extended periods, operate standard office equipment, and occasionally lift/move up to 25 lbs. Site visits may involve uneven surfaces, ladders, and varied weather conditions.
