Fire Protection Systems Engineer

Role Summary

Responsible for the safe, reliable and compliant operation, maintenance, testing and continuous improvement of fire protection and life safety systems within a semiconductor manufacturing facility. The role supports the protection of personnel, facilities, critical manufacturing equipment, cleanrooms and hazardous material storage areas, while ensuring system readiness for 24/7operations.

Key Responsibilities

Fire Protection Systems

• Operate, maintain and monitor site-wide fire protection and life safety systems, including fire detection and alarm, suppression, sprinkler, hydrant, fire pump, gas detection and related emergency systems.
• Ensure system availability, reliability and readiness to support continuous manufacturing operations.

Maintenance & Reliability

• Develop and implement preventive and corrective maintenance programmes.
• Troubleshoot system faults, alarms and equipment failures, and coordinate repairs with contractors and vendors.
• Monitor maintenance performance and ensure timely closure of corrective actions.

Inspection, Testing & Compliance

• Plan and conduct inspections, testing and functional checks of fire protection systems.
• Ensure systems and activities comply with applicable regulatory requirements, recognized fire protection standards, corporate engineering standards and EHS requirements.
• Maintain appropriate records and support regulatory, authority and insurance inspections or audits.

Emergency Response

• Support emergency response activities involving fire andhazardous material incidents.
• Participate in emergency drills, evacuation exercises and response preparedness activities.
• Develop and maintain relevant emergency response procedures and coordinate with relevant emergency services when required.

Projects & Continuous Improvement

• Support fire protection engineering projects from design review through installation, testing and commissioning.
• Review relevant engineering drawings, specifications and technical proposals.
• Identify opportunities to improve system reliability, reduce false alarms and minimize operational disruptions.
• Support evaluation and implementation of new technologies and system enhancements.

Documentation & Performance Management

• Maintain key fire protection system documentation, including system records, inspection and maintenance records, asset information and compliance documentation.
• Monitor and report key performance indicators relating to system availability, alarms, maintenance and compliance.

Key Requirement

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or a relevant Science discipline, such as Mechanical Engineering, Facilities Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering or Occupational Health & Safety.
• Relevant experience in fire protection, life safety systems, facilities engineering, EHS or related engineering functions.
• Experience in semiconductor, electronics manufacturing, chemically intensive manufacturing or other industrial environments is preferred.
• Knowledge of applicable fire protection standards, regulatory requirements and EHS practices.
• Relevant professional or industry certifications, such as WSHO, SFSM or other recognized fire protection, safety or engineering qualifications, will be an advantage.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions and with diverse teams.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrates adaptability, resilience, continuous learning and a commitment to safety and operational excellence.
• Willingness to travel for training or business requirements, including overseas training where required.

• Where relevant to the job role and scope of responsibilities, the jobholder may be appointed to statutory or regulatory roles (e.g. Fire Safety Manager, WSH Officer, Energy Manager, Water Efficiency Manager, Environmental Control Officer, Licensed Electrical Worker, or Radiation Protection Officer). Such appointments form part of the core role and applicable job grade, with no separate appointment allowance.
• The jobholder is responsible for maintaining all required certifications and CPD, reporting any lapse immediately, and discharging applicable statutory duties independently with direct reporting to the occupier on statutory compliance matters.
